how can republicans be so ignorant?
every day i come face to face with a bunch of right wing nuts. everything contradicting to their views is always blamed on the liberal media. now that it is known that WMD didn't exist, they don't want to admit that they are wrong. they persistently live in denial. it makes me so sick that you can't convince these people no matter how hard you try. unfortunately, i am the only democrat where i work and go to school. this is so sad. it's like i am fully aware of the truth yet these people find comfort in ignorance. i wish they could wake up and free themselves from the shackles of right wing propaganda. it's very discouraging but i'm still going to vote for kerry this november.

I don't think they're so much stupid or ignorant as scared
s*(tless that their values are going to be proven wrong.

Things they've believed all their life, ideas they've had all their life, values they've had all their life.

It's damned scarey to discover that those things in which you so fervently believed and on which you've based your entire existance, is false.

Even worse to discover that it was "given" to you in order to benefit others at your cost.

4. well put, nemdaille.
one of the biggest frustrations i feel is in knowing they are acting against their own well-being.

i often end letters to conservative media with "be certain that we dems are as concerned for you and yours as we are for ourselves and ours."

they really are in the same boat we are, and in * hands, the boat is sinking fast.

keep on, all

peace!

7. Yup. "Scared Stupid" is what it is.
Afraid to face that which they'd be incapable of dealing with.
Afraid to face the idea that their well-being has been paid for by the suffering of others.
Afraid to say "I've been fooled!"
Afraid to disagree with 'friends' who'd excommunicate them.

When someone gets out of step with their fellow brown-shirts, they'll mob up on you.

13. so true and so powerful, that statement, TahitiNut. thank you
for that clarity.

piercing clarity.

it is, also, their community, extended family.

i know what it is to turn away from my entire community,

and what it is to have my own entire community turn against me.

maybe everyone here does. most do, i am certain.

if only they knew what a wonderful community would then embrace them and ease their fear, share their grieving!

if only

sigh

peace

2. when you put a ring in your own nose, it doesn't take long for
someone to come and try to lead you around by it.

These people on some level want to be deceived. you can tell by how frantically they reject valid data. You can tell by how irrational their defenses are.

If they are the religious right, they already have two rings in their nose. They've been led around by the likes of Falwell and Robertson, who then say "hey, how about another ring?...here: vote republican".

3. In catholic theology there is a doctrine of 'invincible ignorance'. . . .
. . .which is a state of being which is just what the term implies. When in this state, one has shut the door on any argument or variance with a dearly held belief or intellectual position, nearly always with CATASTROPHIC spiritual results. And, as I'm sure most people know, that catastrophic result is . . . Pray for them.

5. The right-wing echo chamber is well tuned
And there are enough like-minded people for them to get support. Once someone has adopted a position, it is hard to get them to admit they are wrong. No one likes to be played for a fool.

9. Fact-finding could be part of the problem too..
We on the left can, at times, be a bit blind to some of the things our party does as well but what separates us from the right is that we are willing to say "Hmm..let me see what I can dig up first and then try and make a sensible decision" where on the right if one digs one is called a traitor or some such childish name.

When we on the left find something out of whack we're willing to stand up and yell or if need be, scream, till we are heard and the problem is fixed, we have respect in seeing our party as a group thats not perfect but tries to do right by all people....with respect to the moderate-thinking folks on the right Republicans of late have been hard pressed to make there party accountable for its wrong doing like what has happened in Iraq with this war or in the Abu Ghraib prison scandle....they just keep looking the other way and say thats its being all done for the "good of the people".

I guess some people out there are more willing to keep there eyes shut then others.

Just a side note and please forgive me for labeling folks but is it me or does it seem like the folks on the right....far right.. seem the most violent?...Like there unable to control there actions or are not willing to. Just wondering.

11. as badly as i feel contemplating the disillusionment they face,
here or in the hereafter, it still must be said that many of those fixed beliefs and their fury at their being threatened are rooted in being led to believe they are superior.

how can we reach them? walk up to them and just say, "look, those guys you're supporting believe THEY are the superior ones - so superior that they can get YOU to carry them. they are laughing at you. laughing that they've suckered you in. laughing all the way to the bank, literally; and all the way to your destruction"?

it is true.

laughing that conservatives can say, outright, that they have plans that will benefit only the "top 1% of people" knowing that 39% of people, when asked, were absolutely convinced that they are in the top 1%.
laughing at how easy that was - how easy the republican masses are to USE!

even confronted with the ultimate destruction of the entire ecosphere, they fall back on believing they will just get to god faster.

but, given that the bible is true, they were supposed to be concerned with "the least among you" "the meek" the very poor they now seek to let starve in order that they can have more themselves (FACT: that the true 'top' - ie, wealthiest - 1% can have it ALL). that is, they aren't headed for any god when all is done. but they are headed for a cruelly rude awakening.

try to spare them the design of their 'leaders'?: they just want to crush us.

just needed to be said, as long as i'm expressing earnest compassion for them.

peace
