1. I don't think so, Saddam was a megalomaniac corrupted by power.... |

...and unlimited wealth from the riches of Iraq. Still the UN and the World court could have deposed Saddam and brought him to justice. Bush saw that happening and for his wealthy corporate friends choose preemptive war and lied about what he knew and his real reasons for invading and now occupying Iraq. As many if not more Iraqis have been killed, maimed and injured since Bush invaded 18 months ago, as ever would have been had Saddam remained in power with UN inspections and world imposed sanctions. By using war George W(war) Bush now owns the outcome and he can not shift the blame on anyone else or make the outcome feel better than it really is. Watch Bush, he is most definitely insane and very dangerous. Until Kerry is sworen in as President in January 2005, Bush/Cheney must be kept totally in check to ensure they do not escillate world conflict.

2. That's not all that surprising. |

Iraq sits near Israel, Iran, Pakistan and India, all nuclear capable or soon-to-be capable. Why wouldn't Saddam want those nations to believe that Iraq would be able to retaliate in kind? Remember the old MAD (mutually assured destruction) policies from the Cold War?
