I just received a letter from stranger urging me to vote for Kerry. |
|
Some guy in San Jose, CA sent me a letter urging me to vote for Kerry because Kerry will do more to preserve our environment and protect public health. He wrote about how important my vote is because I'm a Florida resident. The mailing and return addresses on the envelope are hand written and the guy signed his name at the bottom of the letter. I wonder how the guy got my mailing address, but I think it's cool that he's sending out these letters. I think I'll write him a letter back to thank him for his letter and to let him know that I will be voting for Kerry.

12. Yep me too. Sent them to Iowa and NH. |
|
That's cool that they are doing that. I've been phonebanking and I know people hate getting called at home, but a hand written letter these days is a rarity.

4. We wrote letters like this at Dean Meetups |
|
DFA coordinated address lists for the meetups from voter registration rolls.

6. Deaniacs sent thousands of letters like that. |
|
Back during the primaries, we got a list of 10 names of Dem voters in whatever state was closest to their primary. I know each party has a list of those registered in their district. We got ours from the Sec. of State. It's a lot of work, and everyone is asked to hand write the letters so there's no chance someone would mistake them for a form letter.

It has a very personal touch to it. It might mean more to undecided voters than reading a form letter spit out by a machine.
I like that a lot.

9. How would someone get involved with a letter writing |

campaign like that? I'm a stay-at-home mom. I would love to write some letters to encourage people to vote for Kerry.

8. I remember this was a tactic of the Edwards for Pres. campaign |
|
You'd sign up at the web site and they give you the addresses of people to write to.
Maybe Kerry or moveon.org are doing something similar.

10. I don't know where/how they got the addresses, but Mrs FOB |
|
and her other friends spent a weekend doing a similar letter writing campaign to Floridian women. I think they each wrote 10 or 15 and we only got 1 back as a bad address!

Blue state people have been doing this for a while. It started with Dean meetups. Kerry is continuing the campaign and I think the Deanies are still cranking the letter out, too. Please write back and thank the person who took the time to try and make a change in the world. :)

Thank you so much for your letter. I think it is wonderful that you are writing letters to promote Sen. Kerry for President. Conservation and environmental protection are important issues for me, and I agree that President Bush has shown that he cares very little about these issues. I disagree with just about every action taken by the Bush administration in the last four years, and worse than that, I perceive them to be dishonest. I am a registered Democrat, and I will most certainly be voting for Kerry/Edwards. I can also guarantee that my husband, who is an independent, will be voting for Kerry/Edwards as well.
Keep up the good work!

That was one of the tactics we did for Dean during early Meetups. At that time we were writing letters to voters in Iowa and New Hampshire. It's cool that you were a recipient of a personal letter like that.
