F-911 question: Why did no U.S Senator speak-up?
I know there was a good reason for their silence, I just forgot why...You know, when the House Reps all came forward to fight against the U.S Supreme Ct. rule for *bush vs Gore.

1. Because they thought maybe there wasn't a point?
If they had spoken up, the election would be thrown to the House of Representatives, which legitmately then would have elected puke-boy king.

OTOH, if they didn't speak up, there'd be a * next to Bush's name.

Now, it's a trade-off of perceived cowardice on the part of the Dem senators versus eroding Bush's legitimacy from the start.

Reasonable people can disagree on what they should have done, I think.

6. Yup
Plus, it was December already with no resolution in sight. I think Gore and everyone else felt it was for the best of the country to come to a decision, and as the Supreme Court had already declared * the winner, the winner he would be.

As usual, Democrats were thinking of their country, while Republicans were thinking of themselves.

We have to remember that at the time, few people know what a disaster * would be. I doubt anyone thought he'd start a war.

2. I believe one reason was a deal Daschle made with GOP leaders
No Dem Senators would sign on with CBC and, in return, Dems would get to co-chair committees. That's how I remember it, anyway.

4. Still, at least THAT would have been Constitutional!
I would have much preferred that.
