US bombs another Iraqi wedding party - 11 dead, 17 injured
including women and children

FALLUJA, Iraq (Reuters) - A U.S. air strike on the rebel-held city of Falluja in western Iraq killed 11 people and wounded 17 at a wedding party, with women and children among the casualties, a hospital doctor said Friday.

Rafah al-Hayat said the U.S. raid, the latest of several which the U.S. military has staged against targets it says are used by foreign militants in Falluja, occurred at about midnight Thursday.

The U.S. military said the "precision strike" had hit a safe-house being used by the network of Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi at 1:15 a.m. Friday.

"Credible intelligence sources confirmed Zarqawi leaders were meeting at the safe-house at the time of the strike," a statement said.

1. This is beyond absurd
Isn't that the same statement they came out with last week, verbatim?

Creating more terrorists, one "safe-house" at a time...

2. That's the plan
More terrorists. More fear. So the American people will swallow fascism without question.

4. Meanwhile our brave Pentagon desk warriors puff their chests
See today's NY Times cover story on plans to 'subdue' cities held by the Iraqi Resistance. (N.B. I think it behooves all of us at DU to start calling it the "Iraqi Resistance", and not "insurgents," as the next few weeks may see the formation of a United Front in Iraq.)

One Pentagon desk warrior in today's NYTimes touted the U.S. military's tactics: "We're doing kinetic strikes in Falluja."
Hmm . . wonder what a 'kinetic strike' is.

9. I shared your confusion, thought the language revealing
A 'kinetic' attack as opposed to what? A "potential' attack, playing off the difference between kinetic\potential energy??

It's the only statement that they keep using, after dropping bombs, or firing artillery.

The statements always contains the same words, "precision bomb", "safe house", "anti-Iraqi forces", "based on intelligence" and
"civilians were not in the house at the time".

'insurgents' are rapidly shifting entire populations to be in the direct fire of US rockets.

Either that, or...

the 'insurgents' are ordinary Iraqi people who are resisting the illegal occupation of their country, and the US 'precision' bombing campaign is anything *but* precision--it's a show of force taking thousands of innocent lives with it.

I don't come across a post as ignorant as yours very often, but I'm happy to be able to tell you. You need to find out a little more about what's really happening in Iraq, instead of buying into the Fox News version hook line and sinker. You wouldn't show up on this board and make ill-informed statements like that.

5. Oh, please let this crap end soon
I was watching 9/11 on video last night, and your post made me recall those scenes with the grieving families in Iraq. What reaaly got me was the extra's in the DVD, the film of Bagdad, or perhaps another city, with people at work at the market, children one carnival rides prior to the invasion.

15. Not anytime soon
I disagree, though. Over the period of a hundred years or so it could be accepted. But forcing the issue will backfire.

17. Compared to the daily bombings they have now?
They had electricity most of the time, air conditioning to combat the summer heat, enough gasoline for their vehicles, clean water, enough food, decent hospitals, decent schools, a fairly low crime rate (again, compared to now), etc. Now there are car bombs on a daily basis, electricity is on a day-to-day basis, lines miles long to get gas, the water supply is contaminated with human waste and diseases, the population relies on US distribution of food, the hospitals are understaffed, undersupplied and overwhelmed by the casualties, the schools sit largely empty as parents are too scared to send their children out into the fray and teachers have no books or other resources, and murder, rape and robbery have gone through the roof.

Yeah, I'm sure all those Iraqis never, ever long for what Baghdad was like before the US "liberated" them.....

8. The Germans used machine guns at Lidice, we use precision bombs.
The Germans wiped out Lidice because of a "terrorist" attack. We wipe out wedding parties to get rid of "terrorists".

Of course the Germans machine gunners were war criminals while our bombers are "heroes".
