what you thought. You weighed in, unsolicited, with your **opinion** on this thread (making a subjective interpretation that it was "personality worship"). How healthy and productive is this? What does your negative opinion on this thread have to do with helping Kerry?

We're all working toward the same goal here -- to get Kerry elected, to rid this country of the right-wing cabal that's running it into the ground, and to further the cause and fortunes of the Democratic Party. If DUers want to create nice one-word statements about Kerry, why should that constitute a "barf-fest" in your mind, and what earthly good does it do DU and Kerry to make that comment? This IMO, is counter-productive. It's not your free speech that's being tested here. It's not about you. It's about Kerry. It's about the Democratic Party. It's about perceiving the greater good, and placing that, for the moment, above all else.

I'd be a completely different person from who I am. Actually, come to think of it, in most of my posts I'm not answering somebody's request for my opinion; I get stimulated, I respond. And every opinionated post, and every interpretation, is "subjective", including every post in this thread.

Yes, we're all working toward the same goal. But in working for that goal, we don't need to become a sterile mass of one-minded clones. In the end, it is exactly that failing that will bring the Republicans down; mark my words. But Republicans could only be expected to act like this (and in a way, forgiven) -- after all, how could a half of the population spontaneously consistently support policies against its own interests? I would like to think that the liberal mind set is incompatible with this kind of goose-step echo-chamber mentality, and that is why you'll see liberals argue amongst each other much more often than conservatives. In the short-term, politically, it may be a weakness; in the long term it's a strength.

What does it do to DU or Kerry to make the comment I made? It obviously does nothing to Kerry. To DU, it contributes my own reaction. What would it have contributed to DU to post a few more synonyms for "Handsome" or "Honorable" or "Integrity" -- unless those were my genuine thoughts? Nothing. I contributed my genuine thoughts. If you find them worthless, that's totally your right. I don't often speak or give opinions for any pragmatic reason. When I say positive things about Kerry (and if you look through my posts you'll find more than plenty), it's not because I'm being mindful of a "goal" or because I'm calculating a contribution to Kerry's campaign; it's because that is my spontaneous opinion straight from the faucet.

I also think that this very exchange we're having is a fruit of my "negative" post, and paradoxically, even you have to agree that in that sense, it had value.
