Bush now says we invaded because of Oil Sanctions.
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 03:56 PM by aden_nak
That's the new spin. I just saw the article in the Star Ledger here in Jersy (a bastion of journalism, oh yeah). He conceded the lack of WMDs in Iraq, but now says the reason we invaded was because Iraq violated sanctions concerning the sale of Oil.

http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/index.ssf?/base/news-18/1097216026126760.xml

Remember, kids, it's never too late to come up with a reason to do something. Even if it's YEARS after you've already done it.

Doesn't this just make him look worse, really? I mean, it was bad enough when he had to keep coming up with new justifications WHILE we were fighting, but it's been two years now. If the violatin of trade sanctions on oil was that big of an issue, we'd have heard about it by now.

Fuck the Global Test, this new "reason" fails the Bullshit Test.

7. It's called Shock and Awe politics.
If you bombard your target (in this case, the public) often enough, consistantly enough, with enough firepower, you're bound to hit them just based on dumb luck.

9. I heard Kerry say that by some counts Bush
has come up with 23 reasons for the war. This is probably 24.

Trying to justify an invasion based on which way the political winds blow. Isn't that what he accuses Kerry of doing?

8. Drop the word "sanctions" and I'd believe him
Who among us thinks he did not invade because of oil?

The only other reason is to avenge the threats against his father. And that only sounds good if you think he's behaving righteously.

10. Let's make a complete list of all the excuses, in chronological order.
I'll start:

1. Saddam Has Weapons of Mass Destruction.
2. Saddam is a Bad Man Who Gassed His Own People.
3. Saddam Has Programs for Producing WMDs.

List the rest...

Halliburton and Enron better watch out. Bush is finally going after the evildoers who misuse funds and the regimes who shield them.

15. So Bush is saying that sacrificing more than 1,000 Americans for oil is OK
That's despicable and a lame argument. The life of one American isn't worth all of the oil in Iraq. At least that's how I feel about it. If they try to make this argument, then the GOP is going to look more craven and evil than it already does.

Energy Panel Seeks Review Of Sanctions
Oil Production in Iraq, Iran And Libya Seen as Critical

Peter Behr and Alan Sipress, Washington Post Staff Writers
April 19, 2001; Page A13

An influential energy task force headed by Vice President Cheney has broached the possibility of lifting some economic sanctions against Iran, Libya and Iraq as part of a plan to increase America's oil supply.

According to a draft of the task force report, the United States should review the sanctions against the three countries because of the importance of their oil production to meeting domestic and global energy needs.

19. He's getting warmer.......
I've read that the REAL reason we invaded Iraq was because Saddam Hussein started trading in Euros. According to the article, he made a $420 million profit, just from the currency appreciation alone (not counting his petro sales). This drove such sheer terror into their hearts that they gave the order to march in.

Well, well. I KNEW Bush could tell the truth when it came right down to it.

25. The Twilight Zone.
Would Congress and the American people have consented to an invasion of Iraq if the reasons forwarded was Saddam was cheating with the Oil for Food Program or that Saddam was going forward with oil sales via the Euro?

28. Bushco will blame their failure on anyone, because their game is blame.
As this administration's preemptive civil war between State and the Pentagon unravels, publicly and privately, with disastrous results, they are desperate for a fall guy position to deflect an objective assessment of what they have dubbed "the war on terror".
