Bush said he made our military more "facile" |
|
Okay, it either means:
1. Easy to be done or performed: not difficult; performable or attainable with little labor.
-or-
2. Easy to be surmounted or removed; easily conquerable; readily mastered.
Gee, I hope he didn't mean Number 2, but what the hell would Number 1 mean?
:)

1. exactly- i always took that to mean "fickle" or something like that... |
|
just like def. 2 or 3 here from yahoo dictionary..
1.Done or achieved with little effort or difficulty; easy. See Synonyms at easy.
2.Working, acting, or speaking with effortless ease and fluency. Arrived at without due care, effort, or examination; superficial: proposed a facile solution to a complex problem.
3.Readily manifested, together with an aura of insincerity and lack of depth: a facile slogan devised by politicians.
ol' chimpy sure has been reading his "million-dollar vocab" books.. too bad he skipped his "hooked on phonics"!!!! what a "vociferous" jackass.

2. Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed that |
|
After all, if our military is fascile, they can fight more vociferously!
It's hard work, using all these big words. None of them are in "My Pet Goat."

Actually, I think he said we have to be facile. "We have to be {something}, and {something else}, and facile."
From m-w.com:
Main Entry: fac·ile Pronunciation: 'fa-s&l Function: adjective Etymology: Middle French, from Latin facilis, from facere to do -- more at DO 1 a (1) : easily accomplished or attained <a facile victory> (2) : SPECIOUS, SUPERFICIAL <I am not concerned ... with offering any facile solution for so complex a problem -- T. S. Eliot> b : used or comprehended with ease c : readily manifested and often lacking sincerity or depth <facile tears> 2 archaic : mild or pleasing in manner or disposition 3 a : READY, FLUENT <facile prose> b : POISED, ASSURED synonym see EASY - fac·ile·ly /-s&(l)-lE/ adverb - fac·ile·ness /-s&l-n&s/ noun
I think he meant specious and superficial, like himself.
On edit, here's the quote: "It also means that we can target things easier and move more quickly, which means we need to be lighter and quicker and more facile and highly trained."
