Someone tell me Bush owns a timber company.
Please. . . he has to. He must at least own PART of one. . .

Is anyone checking on this? It'd be nice to catch Bush in a stupid, blatant lie just like Cheney.

5. Take it easy
Kerry lifted the whole thing from factcheck.org. It's in Dubya's tax returns:
President Bush himself would have qualified as a "small business owner" under the Republican definition, based on his 2001 federal income tax returns. He reported $84 of business income from his part ownership of a timber-growing enterprise. However, 99.99% of Bush's total income came from other sources that year. (Bush also qualified as a "small business owner" in 2000 based on $314 of "business income," but not in 2002 and 2003 when he reported his timber income as "royalties" on a different tax schedule.)

8. I'm glad Brokaw is on top of this.
Bush was all folksy about owning a timber company, but it turns out that's what he claims on his tax return.

9. It's reported in the NY Times too. Since he doesn't own a timber
company and it's on his income tax, that means he lied on his income tax. It worked for Al Capone, maybe it will work for Bush. We get reward too for turning in tax cheaters!

10. it might not be exactly a logging operation.........
If memory serves correct, back around the time farmer chimpy bought the pig farm, a small amount of acreage was planted in live oaks trees. The plan was to market "historical commerative" trees. Let them grow for a few years and sell the trees to republicans to plant in their yards.

Wondered what ever happened to that sceme.

More of a tree nursery that a logging interest, but it would meet the defination of timber use in the texas property tax code.

11. Yeay!
It's funny, Cheney and Bush are both getting beat on for telling the ONE lie that they absolutely did not have to tell, and that they both used to score cheap points on their opponents.

The $84 in "business income" is listed on line 12 and the attached Schedule C.

13. very good on Kerry's part
He opened a trap and * walked right in. It's possible that * doesn't know what's on his tax forms. He pays someone else to take care of the details, but then he shouldn't have declared it wasn't true.

Kerry scored on this one. It didn't look like it at the moment, but it paid off later. Glad there's some fact checking going on by the media.
