Kerry did well, but WHY doesn't he mention Bush's $87 bil VETO threat? |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 12:22 AM by UdoKier
Kerry did well, but when challenged on the $87 bil vote, WHY WHY WHY doesn't he mention Bush's $87 bil VETO threat???
This may have been his last chance to get this CRUCIAL fact out there.
And WHY doesn't he make it CLEARER that there were TWO $87 bil funding bills - he voted for one and against the other.
Christ, this guy is a lawyer, why is he letting THEM frame the question?

1. I agree and I can only assume he figures |
|
with only 30 seconds to make the case he feels it's best to keep the focus on the fact that Bush led us into this war with no plan, and had he not done that the 87 billion issue would not even be an issue.
But I digress I wish he'd collar President Factcheck on this issue I really do.

3. That's a good question. |

There are a few things like that that make you wonder. I also thought he would have had a better rebuttal on the environment. It seems like they don't want to speak to fast and let the spinners handle those things.

Kerry just refuses to go there ... i'm sure they've thought of using it and apparently don't think it will fly ... but I disagree ... Kerry's answer about "having misspoken" is close to incoherent and certainly not an effective counter-punch ...
he needs to do better on this one ... it was his weakest answer in BOTH debates ...

debate, he's blown it for 2 months. I don't get it. I find it impossible to believe that this hasn't been brought up as an issue.
It's easy to explain, not all but enough Merkun's would understand and Kerry could go on offense instead of his ineffective I mis-spoke explanation.

16. No, he won the debates hands down, |

I was referring specifically to the $87 billion question. The few wingnuts I speak with always bring this up. Would it be any different if Kerry offered a better explanation? I don't know, in fact I doubt it, but when I believe my spin on it is better than his it just makes me wonder what's going on.
Maybe I don't have all the facts but the ones I'm familiar with tell me that this issue could be addressed effectively and the ball put firmly in the other court.

The veto fact should be thrown right back in his face when * brings this up.
I would also like to hear some out of Kerry about BCCI. I think this would get a good response from the people watching. If the wording was packaged right.

12. Most people didn't really understand BCCI when it happened... |
|
In fact, there are an awful lot of people who still don't even get what Iran-contra was about.
Our mass culture's memory doesn't even go as far back as Gary Condit & Chandra Levy, and you want them to be mad about BCCI, which involved no genitalia?
Mentioning Bush's close ties to the Saudis and their continued support of terrorism might be good.
Also, he could challenge Bush to release the redacted portions of the Dulfer(sp?) report dealing with American companies who helped Saddam "game" the oil-for-food program. Since I would imagine someof those companies rhyme with "Malliburton", "Frown and Boot", and "Mechtel"...

Kerry should spend some time reading the Democratic Underground forum and stop listening to his high price advisors.

He'd learn a lot if he'd spend some time reading what his real, alive base is thinking.
Not only did he screw up saying that he misspoke, he has made a mistake not holding up to the light what b*sh didn't do before 9/11.
Welcome to DU, Crago... careful, this place is addictive.

There is only so much that you can cover in two minutes/ninety second/thirty second sound bites. You have to leave a lot of good stuff out, for even more important stuff to be in. It becomes a judgement call on the candidate's part as to what is most important to include.
Since those of us who are watching aren't under the pressure that the candidates are, we can often see openings that they miss. In fact, to be honest, I even saw a few times when Kerry left himself open - and Bush missed picking up on it. Again, time constraints. Kerry didn't have time to cover everything defensively and had to choose areas to leave himself open in favor of going on the offense and making W defend.
