The Final Judgment
Bush and Blair's Case for War is Demolished

Excerpt:

"Establishing this truth has required half a dozen top-level inquiries on either side of the Atlantic, the spending of millions of dollars and pounds, the dispatch of hundreds of UN weapons inspectors over the years, and - since the removal of Saddam Hussein - the work of 1,200 inspectors who scoured the country under the auspices of the US-directed Iraq Survey Group.

Oh yes, and it took a war, a war in which thousands of Iraqis, more than 1,000 Americans and more than 100 British and soldiers of other nationalities have died. Iraq is a devastated country that risks sliding into anarchy. And what has it all been for?"

My conclusion:

We will remain in Iraq for two reasons:

1. Oil

2. To save face

Sad; but, I believe true.

Why War? http://perso.wanadoo.fr/chabrieres/texts/whywar.html

1. The worst thing about the whole Iraq war.

As long as we're there, they aren't going to calm back down and become stable. In fact, I don't believe that's even the goal. The excuse that that I hear so much that we went into Iraq to "fight them over there instead of over here" is both immoral and inaccurate. It forces the Iraqi people in the situation of dying to save us from a threat which, in reality, is limited.

2. Get with the program...the Shrubbery is making up new reasons to have gone
to Iraq. Now it is "Sadaam was abusing food for oil program." If they take away your justification, just make up a new one ex post facto. Once it is proven that Shrub overstated this one, he will come up with another reason. He will never admit this invasion was wrong, because he simply refuses to see what he did wrong. He could not come up with a measly THREE mistakes he had made as appointed ruler. He thinks he is above making mistakes, above the law, above everything but God, whose personal phone number he thinks he has. What will it be next? Sadaam was trying to get gay marriage legalized in the U.S.? There is only one reason that Georgie invaded...nation building, and all that goes along with it, especially the oil. The man's mask was pulled off last week, and then again last night. There is an ugly, evil, monstrous face under there, and there is only so much pancake makeup that the media can slather onto it.
