Help Kick Tom DeLay Out of the Leadership!
In a Congress that is awash in stories of corruption and the heavy influence of campaign contributors and special interests, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay is in a class by himself. But his numerous infractions, both proven and alleged, are catching up with him, and we need your help to make them stick.
First, please go to
http://action.citizen.org/pc/mail/oneclick_compose/?alertid=6525286 to immediately send a letter to your member of Congress demanding that he or she tell DeLay to step down as House Majority Leader after having been admonished three times in recent weeks for unethical activities.

We were the first to discover that DeLay accepted campaign cash from the Westar Energy Corp. and then tried to secretly insert into the energy bill a special favor worth millions of dollars to the company. We filed a formal complaint with the House Ethics Committee about DeLay and Westar. The Westar scandal is the basis for the latest admonishment of DeLay by the Committee - and the reason DeLay is now in such hot water!
We want to continue our critical work. For $100, $50 or $35, you can have your personal footprint on Tom DeLay as we collectively boot him out of the House leadership. With your assistance, Public Citizen will continue to pressure DeLay and Congress to do the right thing by:
Publishing a full-page ad costing $9,230 in Roll Call, a Washington, D.C., newspaper read by all members of Congress, calling for DeLay to step down.
Waging a two-week media blitz to persuade editorial writers and columnists to focus on the ethical lapses of DeLay and demand his removal.
Generating thousands more constituent letters like the one you can send today.

Background information
Nicknamed "The Hammer" for his heavy-handed, often brutal style of political arm-twisting, Rep. DeLay has just been handed his second and third admonishments from the House Ethics Committee within the past week - with several more ethics complaints against him pending before the House Ethics Committee, the Department of Justice and the Federal Election Commission, and a related criminal investigation before an Austin, Texas, grand jury.
He has been chastised for offering political bribes for votes on last year's defective Medicare prescription drug bill, as well as for diverting Federal Aviation Administration resources to his personal political redistricting battle in Texas. His aides have been indicted by a Texas grand jury, and DeLay himself appears to be at the center of the web of corrupt fundraising and influence peddling involving the now infamous Westar Energy Corporation. It is beyond outrageous that this man should continue to be in a leadership position in the U.S. House of Representatives - and we need your help to force his resignation from that position.
Please go to
http://action.citizen.org/pc/mail/oneclick_compose/?alertid=6525286 to send a letter to your U.S. Representative demanding that Tom DeLay be removed from his position as House Majority Leader if he does not have the decency to resign. Please say in your letter that if DeLay refuses to step aside, all Republicans should vote him out as Majority Leader.
We also urge you to pass this message on to your friends - the more letters we can generate, the greater the pressure will be on Congress to do something about the egregious behavior of House Majority Leader DeLay.
