1. Do you mean initially volunteering or just continuing to do so?

2. Yes. I've been meeting with the chairman of our local Dem party
and am currently working on graphics work for brochures/mailers for local candidates.

3. I have been registering voters.
Our group is a loosely organized bunch of concerned citizens. We met on the internet and at meetups.

It has helped so much. I don't know what the results of the effort will be, but it helps me contain my anxiety about the direction this country is heading. And it has been a great way to meet new people with similar values.

If you haven't volunteered yet, go! You won't regret it and your country will thank you.

4. I do
Phone Corps and sign-putting-outting for Kerry - among other miscellaneous tasks. If I get to the end of the day and haven't done anything for the campaign yet, I squeeze in at least five phone corps calls.

Yes, I think it makes a difference...

If I weren't doing this, I'd volunteer for ACT (which I think you asked about the other day).

9. I phone banked for ACT one evening.
Most people let their answering machines pickup and we weren't allowed to leave messages.

I'd have liked it a lot more if I could have said, "We'll try again later. In the meanwhile please visit actofvictory.com"

Anyway, my ACT supervisor said they may allow answering machine messages at a later point, so I may phone bank for them again at that time.

5. Newsletter stuffing....
...at the county Kerry HQ. Did I feel it helped? Given that what I was stuffing pertained to my state's law on provisional ballots, and other voting laws, yes, I think it will help, given that we have a secretary of state who is doing his best to imitate Katharine Harris.

What helped me, though, was just volunteering. I admit I had been feeling a little pessimistic, but just being around enthusiastic campaign workers and seeing the traffic coming in off the street for signs, buttons, info, etc. -- gave me renewed hope.

Due to my schedule, I haven't been able to do as much as I'd like campaign wise, so I like to think that whenever I'm down there, I am helping in some small way.

6. With the Greens
I live in New York City, in my district only Democrats win so everyone runs on the Democrat line. My district over the past few years has become something like 33-40% Chinese. A Chinese guy is running on the Conservative and Democratic line, he has also donated money to Bush. Two years ago we had a white liberal Democrat but this guy is a bigshot in the Chinese community.

Anyhow, running against him is a Republican (also Chinese), and another Chinese person running on the Green line who I have been helping. I'm helping him because I know him. Near me is another assemblyman who I don't know - he runs the NYCCLC aside from being any assemblyman (The Central Labor Council is the local AFL-CIO labor council). I told his office I'd help them but I don't know them and haven't heard back.

I went around trying to ask people to sign a card to get him on the ballot, but so many people are not registered voters it is hard. A lot of times they just got to the country a year ago. Actually, this is a growing phenomenom across the country - 1 in 10 adults in New York can't vote, in California it's 1 in *5*. Anyhow, I gave some people voter registration cards when they weren't registered (although you can't register and sign a petition ballot on the same day in New York).

Anyhow, I think a lot of it's a waste of time, union organizing campaigns and strike support seems to be more effective to me personally, but I know the guy so I'm helping him.

11. database work...
for state senate leadership fund.

I started a few months back, going once a week to trouble-shoot and help with data questions.

Much, much better than doing it all week in my little corporate cube.

13. I made calls and mailed out vote-by-mail ballot applications
to older registered voters (who have voted Democratic in the past) at my state representative's campaign office (see link below!)

I felt like I helped find votes for both Patrick and Sen. Kerry from some who might not have made it to the polls on election day but hadn't received a ballot application.

14. Well, I don't know if this counts
but I'm the editor of the local Dem club newsletter. We use our newsletter to help organize and get information to our members, many of whom are registering voters. I scan the internet (news-junkie) for all the best info and especially stories not covered by the "liberal" mainstream media. I feel I'm keeping them informed and giving them the info they need for registering and for the water-cooler battles, so I think I'm helping but more behind the scenes.

15. I have been volunteering for the Kerry campaign since
May. Today we had a mass city wide canvassing campaign. We walked over 30 precincts.

Tomorrow we will walk some more.

I have been put in charge of the canvassing for this county. It is a big deal for we are the second largest county is the state. Nervous? a bit. By the end of the week we will probably be doing literature drops and not collecting data as we have. It's been a real gas so far.

We have given out over 4,000 yard signs this year so far. We got another 1,000 today and they were flying out the door almost as quick as we got them assembled.

in 2000 we only gave out 3,500. Not telling how many we will give out before election day. I would love to break the 6,000 mark.

Also, I have hope that we can unseat the incumbent republican Senator, Jim Bunning. He has been a real turd and the public is unhappy with him over his actions.

Before all the walking I was doing the tabling, but now the precinct walking is our focus. Next week we start phone banking. I will continue with the walking. I like being out and around people. I do miss the tabling.
