Weird phenomenon around here, almost NO Prez campaign signs anywhere! |
|
As some of you know I live in a heavily Repug area (eastern Oklahoma)...last election (2000 for prez I mean) there were a LOT of Boosh/Cheeny signs around and a very small number of Gore/L's. But I just spent about 45 minutess going up & down ever street and other than our Kerry/Edwards sign I saw absolutely ZERO signs in any yards. There are quite a few for the local sheriff's race, so it isn't like everyone is totally apolitical....I just can't figure out what's going on. It's surreal.... :eyes:

I live in eastern OK too and this part of the state historically votes Dem. As you may remember the last governor race was won by Henry and that was attributed to the eastern OK "cock fighting" vote turning out en masse. The eastern counties of OK will vote for Kerry, but the suburbs of OKC and Tulsa will carry the state for Dubya. I live in Indian country and rarely meet a Repuke. Lots of "Gun owner/Pro-Dem" bumperstickers around here.

3. I'm kinda guessing you're around Tahlequah....correct me if I'm wrong tho, |
|
I'm on the Snug Harbor area of Ft. Gibson lake. And the "cockfighting" issue is a very old one for me...back to the early 70s when John Monks was the champion of the chickenbattling crowd. I gained a fair bit of notoriety with my letters to the Muskogee Phoenix (and Tulsa World) about that crazy prick (ironically, his son was a good friend of mine...he eventually was murdered somewhere like New Mexico in a bad drug deal...what a crew that was)

2. It's the same in solidly Democratic central New Mexico |
|
Most of the signs I've seen have been for local races, nearly all of them for various Democrats. The lone neighborhood flag waver has a Badnarik sign.
I've seen a lot of Kerry bumper stickers. I've only seen one Bush bumpersticker, on an SUV driven by a little bitch who cut me off in traffic. I hope she keeps doing it, she's a great advertisement for where the GOPers are at.

5. My guess is that is pretty common for "conservative" areas. |
|
The right is embarassed to admit they support the Chimperor. And the left, after years of having little or no impact, figures why bother.
No one with the least bit of pride in their (imagined) intelligence would admit supporting the Chimpster. They know he's a miserable failure, but even so they can't support a Democrat.

6. it's the same here in western Kentucky... |
|
I see a lot of K/E signs but hardly any B/C signs. You'd think that there would be tons of them around. They opened the Repuke HQ just three weeks ago, and I expected the B/C signs to really start popping up. It hasn't happened yet, and Bush looks to win this state going away.

7. MISERY PRESIDENTS!!! Went through a somewhat wealthy suburb |
|
today - way too many Bush signs for me...fewer signs in general, but mostly Bush-Cheney - felt very uncomfortable...there are about 98% Kerry-Edwards signs in my part of town and a lot of them. Heard stories about neighbors not talking to some of their neighbors as much as before - stories with doubts about having children playing together.
This economy wasn't necessary. This deviseness wasn't necessary. This fear wasn't necessary. That 2000 election outcome wasn't necessary. We are being HAD!
A criminal act against the people of our country has led to thousands of unnecessary deaths and lost limbs, organs, immune and nervous system problems....and untold misery all around.
BUSH and CHENEY ARE THE MISERY PRESIDENTS.

8. None around my No. CA neighborhood |
|
Oddly, quite a number of American flags have gone up the last few weeks in my neighborhood, more each day, but no signs. Last time, there were some B* signs.
I truly believe that everybody takes it for granted that it's all Kerry/Edwards, and the flags are just a reminder that it is voting time, a very important time.
In a way, it is quietly weird. Like a scene in a movie of determined angry resistance and rebellion.

9. Klamath Falls, Oregon... |
|
A few nights ago...from about midnight to 6am...over 300 K/E signs were stolen. None have surfaced since. The Democratic Central Committee here has filed a complaint with the local cops and sheriff's office about the thefts. They also sent out emails to as many of the 10,000 registered libs here to take their signs in at night. Also sent out a press release to our local paper(heraldandnews.com)about the thefts--treating it as a 1st amendment violation. Will see if the story makes it into the Sunday paper.
Seems to be all over the country. Anyone pick up any concerted efforts by the right wing(freepers etc)to do this in an organized fashion?
