1. Aust elections have always been on a Saturday...
I was aghast when I discovered that Americans DIDN'T vote on a non-work day. How the hell can you maintain a democracy that way????

2. I have wondered that since I was first able to cast a vote rooboy.
That was in 1980. It makes no sense unless you want to keep attendence down like the repukes surely do. We know how they feel about a real "Democracy".

3. If you can have a holiday for MLK every year...
you can certainly set a day aside once every FOUR years to choose your country's leadership.

4. In all fairness
the constitution of the U.S. says that the election must be held on the "first Tuesday after the first Monday in November." We would have to change that. Also, the President used to be inaugurated on March 4, but we changed that to January 20.
