Mitchell says huge oil for food scandal involving Texas Republicans.
Andrea Mitchell said on Tweety that there is a huge scandal involving Texas Republican oil men and the Iraqi Oil for Food program. It has to do with a CIA report that blamed the French for the corruption. And the French are furious because they know how much Texas oil men were involved. Anyone know anything about this?

6. If the oil for food scandal didn't involve American companies
Then it would be so huge right now that it would be all the talking heads discussed. They mention it in passing, but you sure don't see Bush and his administration crowing about it a lot.

8. Hasn't Fox News been covering the oil for food thing regularly?
You don't see many details beyond them. Might they use the spectre of "TX oil men" to draw others in?

This is just too exciting. It's a little confusing that the CIA report was used as a cover, isn't it?

15. The Newsweek article says Oscar Wyatt is a Dem contributor
But an uncensored copy of the Duelfer report obtained by NEWSWEEK indicates Houston oil mogul Oscar Wyatt got oil allocations from Saddam which could have earned him and Coastal Corp.—a company he founded and ran until 2000—profits of more than $22 million. Wyatt and wife Lynn are major donors to political causes: since 1989 they have given nearly $700,000 in contributions, of which more than $500,000 went to Democrats. Wyatt told NEWSWEEK that his company did buy oil from Saddam but that he never did so personally, and that his company's dealings all complied with U.N. rules.

18. Jeez... I didn't ask you to repost his tripe... I was making a point
That this newbie posted this trying to insinuate that these guys are Kerry campaign contributors (even though they have not given ONE CENT to Kerry's campaign, if you read my posts below it)... that maybe this guy knows about the Oil for Food scandal since he posted the misleading article.

Sheesh.

It's current. Do you know that their info is erroneous?

You might note that I didn't say anything about any KERRY donations.

and instead just quoted the same misleading part of the article he did, when his agenda was to imply that the Wyatt's are supporting Kerry's campaign. WHICH THEY ARE NOT.

32. It's Texas and that guy is an oil man. You can bet that he gave to Bush's
governor campaign and not to Ann Richard's and you can bet that he gave to Bush's presidential campaign, and not to Gore's.

Those donations were most likely to local Dems who had held the majority in Texas up until Delay's redistricting.

Exxon Mobil, ChevronTexaco, Valero and El Paso have all received subpoenas from a federal grand jury in New York investigating the program. Now that the report has been released, other companies and oil traders with Houston ties could be bracing for a Department of Justice probe.

13. Oil for food link

I found this link in another board.

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/09/international/middleeast/09sanctions.html?oref=login&th

WASHINGTON, Oct. 8 - Major American oil companies and a Texas oil investor were among those who received lucrative vouchers that enabled them to buy Iraqi oil under the United Nations oil-for-food program, according to a report prepared by the chief arms inspector for the Central Intelligence Agency.

That tells me that this story will embarrass dubya and his supporters, so they're spinning like mad to try to shift the story to Democrats.

21. Mission Accomplished
Duelfer's report was the final stake that killed Bush's WMD madness.

So what's the big news today? A list of Oil for Food profiteers in the report. A twofer for Republicans, distraction from their war bungling and UN cronyism. Yay.

Meanwhile, no one has yet accounted for the $4 billion in oil revenues the CPA "lost".

33. Demforall posted this earlier. It's a Newsweek story. Link
is reported elsewhere in one of the posts to your posts, and in the original Demforall post.

I replied to the earlier post about what Andrea Mitchell said, as well. However, she may be wrong about it involving Repubs. It may involve Dems. If so....look out. This'll be a humdinger of an issue.

contributions in the 2004 campaign for either candidate. Demforall was trying to twist it into them being Kerry supporters, which they are not.

all American Companies Names weren't removed from the list
that went public .

This is very important because one of the RW talking
points through all this has been "the French had
a finanial reason for not wanting to Ally themselves
with the U.S. in invading Iraq"
