Will any future election be untainted?

After 2000 finally made it clear how corrupt our electoral system is, do you think America as a nation will ever be able to repair the damage?

We've watched voting systems get put into place that seem to be built specifically for tampering with little to no effort to even obfuscate that fact. We've watched 'undesirable' voters get disenfranchised by the thousands be it by lost or invalidated ballots or simply turning them away from the voting booths. We've endured the most vicious, untruthful, antagonistic, distracted, obfuscatory campaign in history.

The entire system has gone straight into the toilet, and even the Freeps know it (even though they're using it to rationalize *'s sinking chances by screaming "voter fraud" and threatening to bring out their newly legalized assault weapons).

Every election from here on out is going to be viewed as a rigged game. No matter who winds up in the white house, both sides will view their caustic antagonism as not vicious enough and will continually step up until an election is nothing more than name calling with no pretenses made. On top of that, it won't end with the election, we can get used to this being a way of life. You think attacks against Kerry and the Democratic party are bad now? You ain't seen nuthin' yet, wait until he's president.

This IS America, and it's in shambles. Whether you call it truth, paranoia, something in between, or all of the above (just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they AREN'T out to get you), will anyone EVER be able to trust elections again? The right in their efforts to steal power have destroyed the cornerstone of our free nation.

The question is, can we rebuild? Is it even possible?
