Sinclair shareholders are very, very angry.....at the management!
Check out Yahoo finance messages on Sinclair. Shareholders are pissed because Sinclair's blatant partisanship is driving down the company value. Even Republicans are pissed:

http://finance.messages.yahoo.com/bbs?.mm=FN&action=l&mid=&board=7083976&sid=7083976&tid=sbgi&start=1179

"The internet is going crazy over managements' decision to be so blatant about supporting Bush. Lists of advertisers to warn about boycotts, analysts names and phone numbers, mutual funds that have positions, etc... It's all going out there and people are really upset. I don't even want to think about the shareholder lawsuitswe're going to be facing over the next few years. SELL this pig"

"As much as I dislike Kerry...
This is a horrible idea. It looks like Sinclair is more interested in the election than protecting their shareholders...
Depending on what happens in the coming days, I may unload the stock."

"Dump this TURD
They do not know how to run a credible business but instead undermine any opportunities with political agendas.
This thing stinks."

"In case some have forgotten
Combine Sinclair's current actions with their refusal to air Nightline's tribute to fallen American servicepeople in Iraq (see Republican Senator John McCain's letter on this at: <http://mccain.senate.gov/index.cfm?fuseaction=NewsCenter.ViewPressRelease&Conten t_id=1276 >) and the ambulance chasers are gonna have an easy time demonstrating willful mismanagement.

With how close the election is, motive for purposeful mismanagement (normally a real bear to show) may be a complete no-brainer on this one.

I'd dump this at the open tomorrow!

Unfortunately, with the threat of: shareholder derivative actions, potential boycotts already being voiced, potential FCC involvement, and potential independent litigation being brought by advocacy groups (not to mention the potential in such a high-profile case for loss-of-value, via purposeful mismanagement, suits by advertisers) it can only go one way..

23. This is on their web site...could help our cause
Initial guidance was for third quarter net broadcast revenues to be up
4% to 5% from third quarter 2003 net broadcast revenues of $161.3 million.
However, due to weakness primarily in auto advertising spending and
cancellations resulting from the recent hurricanes which impacted eight of
the Company's television stations in the Southeast, the Company is revising
its net broadcast revenue guidance to be approximately $163.7 million in
the third quarter.

Sinclair will release final third quarter 2004 earnings results on
Thursday, November 4, 2004 at 7:30 am ET.

5. I think this is worth posting in GD2004.
If I held shares, I'd be quaking.
If I were a Sinclair bigwig, I'd be shaking.
Plus the prositution charge against their CEO (or whatever his title is) is the cherry on top.

Edited on Sun Oct-10-04 11:27 PM by acmavm
And maybe and explanation. Don't have stocks, can't afford stocks, so I've never learned to read the stock analysis of companies.

I promise I'll be forever grateful for this favor. This situation has me in a horrible state. I know it's a KKKarl Rove exclusive production. Remember, he said that they had a couple of surprises for October in store. I think this is one of them that the fat repulsive repugnant bastard was talking about.

edit: Seriously, this has really got my shorts in a bunch.

8. Makes you wonder
...if SBG is really interested in its stock value.

Whatever its political stripe, a publically-held company has an overarching obligation to its shareholders. The SEC needs to take a close look at this because SBG's management appears to be putting its own narrow political interests ahead of its stockholders', which is an extremely serious matter.

18. I am damn sure going to check my mutuals
...for any SBGI holdings. Then I'll visit my broker and make any moves necessary to divest my portfolio of Sinclair stock.

I'm not keeping any mutual that would hold stock in a company that doesn't care about its investors. I plan to retire with a nice nest egg, and companies like Sinclair that shill for politicians at my expense do not fit into the plan.

Check their chart...it traded at 15.43 in January, and now it's around 7.50. It's a crappy investment any way, but it's being made worse by outrageous mismanagement. Fold 'em.

Insider Trading is having advance info that IS NOT AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

This info IS available to the general public. No insider trading here.

There's no law against a bunch of people getting together as one to dump shares in a company and tank their stock price.

Just awesome.

I remember seeing the headline yesterday and near-freaking out. Then I got online today and saw that DU's were -- as is there wont - mobilizing. All geared up to call the closest Sinclair station tomorrow, I see this. Happy dance!

Think this stock dumping will show up in newspapers tomorrow?

35. Ha, ha, ha, ha . . .
This is great! Guess Americans are not as stupid as Sinclair thinks they are. I sent the following to Sinclair this morning:

You people are truly disgusting! How dare you broadcast ANYTHING backed by the Swift Boat LIARS! You should be ashamed of yourselves. The man you are backing for President went AWOL and did not complete his service to our country. Plus, his daddy got him into the TANG, jumping ahead of hundreds waiting to get in. This is the man you are backing??? You go ahead and air this disgusting piece of propaganda. Please keep in mind that I nor anyone else I know who voted for Al Gore in 2000 is now going to vote for Bush. Remember, Gore won the popular vote by 500,000. More than half of America is not as stupid as you might think. I think you are in for a huge surprise on November 2nd when we send your boy packing back to Crawford. I truly hope when Kerry wins the presidency and Michael Powell is ousted from the FCC, somehow your license to broadcast will be revoked for spreading propaganda. :grr:

36. Some investors think its a publicity stunt by Sinclair
since their value was going down the drain, they'd try to be a mini-FOX and see if that brought more viewers:

A pig with lipstick
by: allredstates
Long-Term Sentiment: Strong Sell 10/11/04 02:42 am
Msg: 1301 of 1478

The fundamentals on this stock suck and Sinclair is making a foolish gambit for media attention to try and turn their market cap around. Somebody there figures any news is good news and hopes that conservatives and Republicans in the investment community will buy simply to be supportive of the decision to air this anti-Kerry piece.

It won't work. Quite simply because the fundamentals for Sinclair are awful, but then you add in all the talk about potential boycotts, legal action, FCC moves, etc.

Just look:

It hit a yearly high of just a bit over 15 back in January.

While the FCC has been deregulating and many media conglomerates have been benefitting, Sinclair has steadily fallen to the current range of 7 1/2 since January. It's P/E is almost 18 and even the dividend yield is poor.

Anyone who is calling this a "BUY" is, as we say in the biz, "putting lipstick on a PIG.
