Christopher Reeve was my first crush as a teenager - My Superman
He was my first crush and I had my room covered with pictures of him...I must have seen the Superman movie atleast 10 times....Although he was a natural blonde and had died his hair dark for the movie, he symbolized the kind of man I was always attracted to physically....ofcourse, this was only the movies and he was acting, but to a 12 year old girl with hormones and braces, it didn't matter.

Meanwhile, years later in my 30's, my boyfriend was a neurologist who worked with Christopher Reeve's foundation. I had the opportunity to first meet Christopher and his wonderful wife Dana in person at an event for the foundation. I had the opportunity to tell him (and Dana too) about him having been my first crush....but more importantly, I felt and still feel this now, that he was everything and more that I had pictured as a young girl and that through the love and courage that I saw him and Dana have together, that I truly hoped to find that kind of love someday and my "Superman", but also to be a "Superwoman" like Dana was in his life....May we all be so lucky to have found and shared the kind of love they did.

I am truly sad right now....I had really believed that Chris would be able to walk someday again....If anyone could, he would have been the one....But in actuality, he did walk...with Dana's and his children's love.....

Namaste Chris and Dana

1. And I can see why you felt that way

A doll on the outside, a mensch on the inside. Rest in peace, Chris.
