15. Not quite...
Born to Run, if played, will be part of Bruce's encore...

Watch the guys from R.E.M. during Born to Run. I swear they look like they are kids witht eh keys to the candy store... Of course, so would I...

I have also found myself respecting R.E.M. a LOT more after seeing VFC in Philly on 10/1...

20. Hey Man! I was at VFC on 10/1 in Philly!
Bruce doing the national anthem and breaking into Born in the USA was fantastic, and ALL of Fogerty were the highlights for me.
Stipe was great.
Never saw E Street Band before. Awesome show, unforgettable.

37. Thanks for the Keb Mo reference
He is GREAT! I didn't know who he was while on stage with Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Brown. Though I'd never heard of him, I downloaded several songs from his "Peace: Back by Popular Demand" album on ITunes a couple of weeks ago after hearing samples I liked. It is really great to see him on this tour. I hope he expands his fan base exponentially with this exposure - he is the real deal!

36. pearl jam playing 'greviance'!
have a drink they're buying
bottom of, bottle of denial
big guy, big eye, watchin me
have to wonder what it sees

progress laced with ramifications
freedom's big plunge
pull the innocent from a crowd
raise the sticks then bring em down
if they fail to obey
oh if they fail to obey

for every tool they lend us
a loss of independence
i pledge my grievance to the flag
cause you don't give blood then take it back again

oh we're all deserving something more
progress, taste it, invest-it-all
champagne breakfast for everyone
break the innocent when they're proud
raise the stakes then bring em down
if they fail to obey
oh if they fail to obey

pledge your grievance to the flag
aw c'mon, don't give blood then take it back again
oh we're all deserving something more

i want to breathe
follow the scene
i want to taste
everyone i see
i want to run when i'm up high
i want to run into the sea
i only want life to be...
i just want to be...
i will feel alive as long as i am free...

64. Agreed. Absolutely. We're in.
We tried to have it at shown at a major venue, but they wouldn't set aside "Monday Night Football". Last time we there, 1 week ago for Monday night football, there were only about 10 people in the house that seats 500, coincidentally on Friday night said venue hosted the Debate and had 300 to 400 in the house, watching the debate, +$8.00 parking and drinks and food. SAD, sad, sad state of affairs.

and they got hammered for it. they are from texas and clearly the majority of their fans turned their backs on them for their stand against bush and the iraq war

then they get involved with this concert. i dont listen to stations that play their music but they are incredibly talented, real people (who are also powerfully smart!)
ill have to support them and buy a couple cds

These people were not Chicks fans, they were blowhard freepers.

The DC are more popular and richer than EVER. I think the post-controversy album sold more than 19 million copies.

Thanks everyone for posting the website, I didn't know they were showing it online, that is awesome, I am now watching my idol the Boss, whom I have never seen in concert.

73. I don' t think anyone knew who their base was, and I think
it was a bunch of bullshit engineered by Cumulus and Clear Channel. I have quoted the numbers, they set a new record for first day ticket sales when their tickets went on sale, and their album blew the first two out of the water.

The fact is that the Chicks had as their base many women (and men) who were not fans of country music, as well as people who are fans of more traditional music like the bluegrass influenced tunes they play, rather than the redneck fans of this tacky Nashville shit that has been coming down the pike since Garth Brooks was spawned.

I have argued this point about 50 million times, but once again, the answer to the question of whether the Dixie Chicks lost a significant amount of fans can only be measured in cold hard cash. The freepers just made a few more people rich by their media backed smear campaigned that backfired just like it has with Michael Moore every time.

89. Profound statement.
This was great, I remember seeing him play years ago at a small park in Richmond - the band was "Steel Mill" then and he was so humble, never thought he was good enough play big time.

What a great group, I feel young again.

76. This is like a dream come true.
Some of my hardcore favorite musicians on the stage together.

Bruce Springsteen is our Elvis,
and R.E.M. is gen X's Beatles.

I think Pearl Jam may be the gen Y Beatles.\

And John Mellencamp, I have loved him since "Uh-huh". I also have "Nothing Matters and What if it Did" I'm not sure which is first.

Always have been.

At least one good thing came out of the Reagan era!

And Bush 1 spawned Pearl Jam.

Maybe some good alt. music will be spawned by W., although it is harder than ever for these musicians to get heard thanks to consolidation.

88. Eons ago my dad showed me an article about Springsteen in
Newsweek or something--it said he was going to be the next Dylan. He told me "just for fun" watch this guy to see he turns out to be anything.

He sure did. The concert really lifted my spirits after a few days of depression over Sinclair and Bush lies.

91. He really resented that comparison, and totally changed his
writing style because of it. It is in his book, he talks about how he used to write songs like poems and then write the music, but all of a sudden he got all these Dylan comparisons, and he says in the book "I never wrote that way again."

Which I hate, because from a pure artistic standpoint, his early work blows anything of Dylan's out of the water. Dylan used mainly masculine rhyme and repeating rhyme schemes for his songs, which isn't that hard to do, even though the music and the message are significant. Bruce's early work is overflowing with tons of feminine (or multi-syllablic, if you prefer) rhyme, and assonance and consonance out the yin-yang, not to mention differing rhyme schemes, and some of his songs had 50 to 100 lines, each one as immaculate as the next. I much prefer his earlier work and I don't quite understand why he switched his style in reaction to the Dylan comparisons, unless he thinks Dylan is some bourgeois elitist poser punk (as I have at times) and he wanted to appeal more, and speak more, to the working class poor, instead of middle and upper middle class college students.

Since they started calling him the new Dylan, he started writing the music first and then putting words to it. His message may be clearer, but I miss the old shakespearean rock.

I think Eminem has the amount of talent for rhyme that the Boss did in the early days.
