What does a "culture of life" mean? |
|
After having read the transcript of the last debate, I'm astounded that we have a president in this country who is so damn dumb. He speaks about a culture of life when asked about stem-cell research as follows: "There are reasonable ways to help promote a culture of life in America. <snip> "Culture of life is really important for a country to have if it's going to be a hospitable society."
Now I ask: Is there an opposite of that called a "culture of death"?
What in the f--k does that mean? When I get through reading his statements, I'm bewildered. Why do we have so many brilliant people in this country and we have a fool like he is in charge of this country???

Maybe in deep do-do! He's so damn ignorant! When I listen to him speak, I know how dumb he sounds; but when I read his words, they leave me shaking my head and wondering what planet he is from. Whoever programmed him did a lousy job.

it's ok to send off 18 year olds to die in a reckless, baseless and illegal war.
Bush is such a tool.

13. Yes, a few cells are much more valuable to the |
|
culture of life than our men and women being killed and/or maimed daily.

6. Actually, I would say this society *is* a "culture of death" |

What other industrialized country is waging war on an imaginary enemy right now, and gleefully killing thousands?
What other industrialized country lets it's elderly and handicapped die from lack of resources?
The US ranks 37th in health care, in large part because of a very high infant death rate.
What other country has such a high murder rate?
What other country is obsessed with televised violence?
The US is "pro-life", and I'm the Easter Bunny.

11. It means you abort fetuses after the 72nd trimester. |

And you do so very aggressively: with wars, executions, poverty, etc.

put body parts of a civilian victim in a glass jar for show and tell, so they can pull it out next time a good Christian pulls out one of those tiny abortion babies in a jar to show how 'compassionate' they are.

19. It is a phrase used by the Pope in a speech on abortion. |
|
Kerry had just made a reference to his being a Catholic. Bush probably figured that Catholics would know of the phrase that the Pope used and by using that same phrase he was attacking Kerry's fidelity to the Catholic church, but without having to do it directly. I think he figured that Catholics would pick up on it, but that others wouldn't.
Basically, I think he was saying: Kerry is trying to have it both ways again. He wants you to respect his Catholicism, yet he doesn't obey the church teachings.

with ALL this religion stuff..Believe WHATEVER YOU WANT TO...just don't drag it into GOVERNANCE..
I don't believe LOTS of stuff that's part of religion, but I also do not expect others to STOP believing it, just because i say so :grr:

22. Sorry. I have to disagree with you. |
|
If I were hiring somebody to be a stock clerk, their religion would be of little interest to me, unless it somehow interfered with how they did their job. EX: Islamic woman being required to have her pictured taken for a company required security ID.
POTUS is quite different. I want to know everything I can about the candidate. How faithful he may or may not be to his religion and what he believes is important, as this will be a large part of his decision making matrix. It is from those beliefs that he will get most of his notions of right and wrong.
However, my post was not supporting Bush, but answering the question as to what the "culture of life" phrase was all about.

21. He makes no sense all the time. |
|
If he did make sense, people would know for sure what a dirtbag he is. We spend too much time trying to figure out what he is saying when there is nothing but hot air to figure out.
Forget the words and look at the actions. They are what damns him, his actions.
