My review of "The Hunting of the President"
Official site: http://www.thehuntingofthepresident.com

I got it on DVD from Blockbuster Video. It's a documentary by Gene Lyons and Joe Conason about the right-wing's obsession with destroying Bill Clinton. The film mostly consists of interviews and archive footage, narrated by Morgan Freeman.

My minor complaint was that I thought the movie itself was a little confused and disjointed, and could use some editing. However, on reflection it was a subject begging for a documentary. I think a drama with actors and a narrowed-down plot would be hit.

Anyway, I thought the film was great. It really brought back to me how vile and repulsive Ken Starr was, and how he ruined so many people's lives. I learned lots about the facts of the Whitewater land deal, and found I really like Susan McDougal. All your least-favorite republican slimeballs from the nineties are there (Newt Gingrich, Ann Coulter, Linda Tripp, Jerry Falwell, Ted Olson, etc.) . Also, the DVD includes a speech by Bill Clinton given at the end of the premiere.

I give it 4 and a half out of five blue dresses. :) Definitely a must-see blast from the past that will once again remind you how much republicans suck a$$.

2. Did you watch Bill's opening night speech in the special features?
After watching the movie, following it up with that speech was the icing on the cake. You can really see how it effected him personally in that speech.

I watched this movie again today with a friend who had never seen it. It was good.

Another good one is "The War Room". It has some great footage of Bush Senior and his end of the campaign speeches. Amazing how many of Juniors phrases are just rewarmed Poppa attack phrases ... Right down to the ELVIS comments! Another must see!

I'll check it out. Is it on DVD yet?

BTW, I did see Clinton's speech in the special features. It was great.

6. The War Room
I actually just got that and was about to post about that. It's uncanny how if you substitute Kerry for Clinton in the statements, they sound like something you just heard.

7. I'm not sure children should be exposed to
republicans. They are much too evil and disgusting to let kids watch. However, beyond that, the film is fine for kids. :)

5. Books are better
I have not seen the movie; but, the book on which it is based is an excellent read. It should be required reading for anyone who enters American politics.
