Poll question: During the CA energy crisis, how many people had electric bills above $300
It is believe that this as planned out by Swartzenegger, Enron and Cheney. The only reason the names from the energy meetings hasn't been released is because that info would destro;y Bush's re-elction chances. In Orange County, SDG & E bills went from $89 to above $300 for minimal energy use.

1. I had to vote "below"
Because my electric bills are low. I don't use a lot of power. My bill did go up somewhat though.

I think you should post this in the California forum also.

3. As much as possible in our house is gas-powered
Our 1960's model "Gold Medal All Electric Home" was mercifully converted by the previous owners before we bought it in 1983: home heating, water heater, dryer, stove top all use natural gas. Our location on the Central Coast helps a lot in winter because it's big news when we get a frost, and in summer we can sweat it out without a fan if we have to since it's seldom over three digits.

My family was not hurt nearly as badly as many others in the state where the climate is much more extreme.

So it's like California, Oregon, and Washington were raped by Enron -- just because I wasn't battered too badly myself doesn't mean I'm not outraged. The guys responsible should forfeit their personal fortunes and their personal freedoms if there's still such a thing as justice.

7. you know, natural gas is being used by peaker plants and it is getting
harder to find; price is going up on it too.

4. I have 115V 40A service at home...
so I can't use a lot of electricity. I have never exceded my base rate (hey, my depression era parents taught me well). Our bill did go up a bit, but way, way under $300.

5. Below - long live municipal power utilities
I love the LA DWP. Publicly owned, smart enough not to play in the whole deregulation scam.

9. I was above...ashamed to say
Our house has 70% 24' ceilings and absolutely no insulation. To make matters worse we have a 20'x24' +/- glass wall in the living room.

10. It Doesn't Get Hold/Cold Here!!
I live in Mountain View, just down the street from Los Altos, and while we might have a few hot days, it really doesn't stay hot long or get very cold. It must've taken a lot of work to get a bill that high here!

Mine has never been over $50.00.

11. I was off the grid at the time.

Living aboard a small sailboat, I had a solar cell and a storage battery. I also used AA batteries for some things.

I kinda felt sorry for people who had big houses. Some were spending more on electricity in a month than my entire monthly income. Why do I always waste sympathy on rich people?
