The world changed after 9/11. |
|
I have heard it so much that I'm totally sick of hearing it. Yeah, it changed for this country, because it gave war-lovers an excuse to engage us in perpetual war for years to come. Many of them seem to have it all mapped out, pointing out that Iran is the real evil and the reason we need to be in Iraq for a few more years. I'm saying to myself that this is never going to end. How long do we need to destroy all our enemies and how many of our soldiers and how many of theirs will have to die before we subdue the entire Mideast?
If you really challenge these chicken-hawks over what their ultimate goal is, you will hear a much bigger war scenario than what we hear from the administration or on the news.
My question to them is why they feel that our citizens should be denied this critical information concerning our future. Why do we have some kind of secret government planning these things and depriving we the people of this global wonderland of war? I sure feel bad for the youngsters, who have to grow up in this age. I'm glad that I'm a smoker. I don't want to see too far ahead.

Thanks for posting this. Joan Didion has a really good piece in the New York Review of Books (current issue) on just this sort of thing.
The Bush administration is dripping lies.

3. This Regime Uses It To Hide It's Responsibility |
|
Pre 9/11 from the negligence (or whatever) that allowed the attack to happen and the near total collapse of the stock market and the billions of investor dollars that went from little pockets to big ones.
Post 9/11 it's to absolve them of any blame of what they didn't do before 9/11 (blame Clinton) and that those who are the least bit critical about what this regime has done since is either unpatriotic, or "just doesn't understand" (translation: we weren't scared shitless).
I have more faith than you. American history has been littered with sad episodes of what we're experiencing, but sanity does prevail and a sometimes even good things happen. For example look at how the uptight McCarthyism of the 50s opened the door to the civil rights movement and the cultural revolution of the 60's. I sense the pendullum has begun to swing back in the other direction. We've had 20 year of hell, it's our turn now.
