"Security Scholars..." (100s of them!) Open letter to American People
An Open Letter to the American People:

We, a nonpartisan group of foreign affairs specialists, have joined together to call urgently for a change of course in American foreign and national security policy. We judge that the current American policy centered around the war in Iraq is the most misguided one since the Vietnam period, one which harms the cause of the struggle against extreme Islamist terrorists. One result has been a great distortion in the terms of public debate on foreign and national security policy—an emphasis on speculation instead of facts, on mythology instead of calculation, and on misplaced moralizing over considerations of national interest. <1> We write to challenge some of these distortions............

1. Here is the damning statement against the Bush policies....
....<snip> "Although we applaud the Bush Administration for its initial focus on destroying al-Qaida bases in Afghanistan, its failure to engage sufficient U.S. troops to capture or kill the mass of al-Qaida fighters in the later stages of that war was a great blunder. It is a fact that the early shift of U.S. focus to Iraq diverted U.S. resources, including special operations forces and intelligence capabilities, away from direct pursuit of the fight against the terrorists. <2>"

...This entire letter should be circulated to the so called "security moms" voters. I have an email list that I'm going to send the statement to. Thanks for the post:kick:

8. This is so awesome!
And add it to the open letter from the 169 economists (http://www.openlettertothepresident.com), and also the endorsement of Kerry by ten Nobel-winning economists (http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5818277), and we really have something!

Of course, in the current "damned be smartness and intellecualism, I wants a president that I'd like to have a beer with, huh huh!" social arena, having intelligent people on your side could be a death mark.

9. I'm sure the cable networks will be discussing this
non-stop for the next week or two.

These professors better be ready to make the rounds on every talk show on cable, after all, the corporate media is constantly informing us that Iraq and foreign policy is the most important issue on everybody's mind.

And lately they've been pointing out how the voters want discussion on substantive issues every time they are asked.

These professors should be racking up the frequent-flyer miles between now and November.
