Honest evaluations "on the street" where you live...
I'm curious:

1. Where do you live?

2. Did your state go for * or Gore in 2000?

3. On average, do you see more * or Kerry bumper stickers?

4. On average, do you see more * or Kerry yard signs?

5. Do you wear your Kerry button? If so, what response do you get?

I'm feeling very unsettled right now. I'm in PA, but it seems like everytime I feel this strong momentum for Kerry, something here happens and I get all depressed again. I've put up Kerry signs around busy roads, and one has gotten stolen two times in as many days. Then I heard on my Students for Kerry group that 18-24 year olds now favor Bush over Kerry - something that has never happened until now. In class today, this idiot student was fussing about how Kerry voted for the war but now oppsoes it. I tried immediately to correct him since th ENTIRE class was listening to our debate, but the professor told us to nevermind and started class. WTF???

1. ok... here we go...
1. Hudson County, New Jersey (right across from Manhattan)
2. Gore
3. Kerry, wide margin
4. Kerry window signs
5. Yes, I wear my K/E button, but I work in midtown Manhattan and I've seen countless people with K/E buttons, so no reactions.

I get "depressed" too... In fact, I'm an electoral bipolar right now!

I go through days when I am sure Kerry will make it, no problem... other days, well I'm not so sure. I don't have a lot of faith in the electorate to come to its senses and, since I lived for 15 years in NC, I know how freepers "think" (for lack of a better word).

2. Very Rural Area
While driving into "tiny town" this afternoon, I noticed that there were an equal amount of Kerry and bush signs dotting the main road.

1. Rural area. Nearest town population 200. Biggest town population 1600

2. Minnesota came in for Gore

3. Including mine, I've seen one.

4. Equal amount.

5. Including my yard sign, there are two on our dirt road where 4 families live.

6. I haven't found a Kerry button....Will look for one in "larger tiny town" tomorrow.

Sudie in MN

3. You're gonna love my answers
I'm curious:

1. Where do you live? Cambridge, MA

2. Did your state go for * or Gore in 2000? Gore. My city gave more votes to Nader than Bush.

3. On average, do you see more * or Kerry bumper stickers? I've seen about 1/2 dozen Bush stickers in the past couple of months. My whole neighborhood is filled with Kerry signs and liberal bumperstickers

4. On average, do you see more * or Kerry yard signs? I have seen two Bush yard signs out in the suburbs.

5. Do you wear your Kerry button? If so, what response do you get? I get positive reactions from my pin and bumperstickers

4. I'm in an area that had about 2 Gore signs in 2000, today there are
literally close to 100 in my area. I am certain with in a few mile radius of my home the K/E signs outnumber the Bush signs significantly.

I am in disbelief b/c the precinct in which I live went for Coleman in the past election I believe Bush in 2000.

I am literally about in tears when I see all the support for Kerry/Edwards. The other day the same thing happened at the grocary store, about 5 K/E signs ZERO Bush.

Also at my daughters school, about 1 Bush sticker to every 4-5 K/E.

I'm in a Suburb of Saint Paul, Minnesota ... :hi:

5. Mostly rural with 4 urban areas over 50,000, lots of military
Came in for Gore after one box of absentee ballots from a highly Democratic area was "found" after the GOP had tried to stash it and despite massive voter fraud from Texans crossing to vote a second time near their vacation property; sign count yesterday 7 Kerry 1 Bush; businessmen busted for putting Bush signs on employee cars without their consent; frowns and hisses in my local bank that has CNN on to amuse people standing in line whenever anyone from the Bush gang is on the screen.

Don't get discouraged. I have a sneaking suspicion that all the Survey USA and Gallup polls in the world won't manage to suppress voter turnout this time.

1. Where do you live?
small town in the lower Hudson Valley in New York

2. Did your state go for * or Gore in 2000?
Gore, all the way

3. On average, do you see more * or Kerry bumper stickers?
in my town (which is small), almost solid Bush . . . in the county, evenly split

4. On average, do you see more * or Kerry yard signs?
Bush . . . have yet to see a Kerry sign

5. Do you wear your Kerry button? If so, what response do you get?
don't have a Kerry button, and don't go out all that much

my town is in no way indicative of how the vote will go in New York . . . it's a hotbed of conservative Republicanism, and no one's going to change their minds . . . I've learned to live with it . . . but the county will likely go for Kerry, since two of the three large townships are heavily Democratic and liberal . . .

8. My depressing info...
1. Moscow, Idaho

2. *, and it goes Republican every year. Ick!

3. I don't actually see a lot of either up here. I do believe I've seen more Kerry bumper stickers. I think Democrats in Idaho have just given up hope, and the * supporters are apathetic, because they know they're going to win. So, maybe I've seen 4 Kerry bumber stickers.

4. I've seen one Bush sign (at the ARG fraternity house -- agriculture majors.) No Kerry signs. Of course, I live almost on campus, so it's mostly apartments around here.

5. I would if I knew where to get one!

9. Here are my answers to your questions:
Edited on Tue Oct-12-04 05:09 PM by Dzimbowicz
1. South Carolina
2. Bu$h
3. I see more for bu$h and they are usually accompanied by some type of Christian emblem.
4. Believe it or not, it's almost a tie in my part of town.
5. Yes, a "Veteran for Kerry" button (I'm prohibited from wearing it at work as I am a public school teacher) and a similar bumper sticker. Those who do say things to me about it are "How can you not support the troops?" and on several occasions I have actually been called "traitor".

On another note, this past weekend the weather was wonderful here: low 80s and sunny, so I went for a bike ride. I went through a variety of neighborhoods and I saw a surprising number of Kerry signs. However, when a neighborhood had a number of Kerry yard signs, there seemed to be a competing number of bu$h signs. It appeared that there is some good competition going on in several neighborhoods.

When watching the election returns the best I can hope for in my state is that it might be "too close to call" for several minutes. Maybe, just maybe...

This week at school we are holding a mock election. One of my fellow teachers who voted for bu$h last time actually put in a vote for Kerry in our small endeavor.

10. Alright
1.) Memphis, TN

2.) Went for * , but wouldn't have gone for Gore if he had spent time campaigning here

3.) Have seen a few K/E stickers but a whole lot of * stickers. A few B/C on the trucks and older cars but mostly the "dubya" stickers on the SUV's and BMW's,etc

4.) On my way to class, I see a lot of B/C signs but then the area I go through is an upper class area. I'm confident there are more Kerry signs in other parts of the city Near where I live so far there are 3 * signs and 2 Kerry signs.

If you want a feel of how some of the people at my school feel I'll point you to my school's message board and thread where the elections were discussed. A lot of freeper logic but I'm going in and disinfect the place after I have collected my links and articles

Here's the thread:

11. I'd call us more pink than red
1. Grand Forks, ND (ND has 3 Democrats of 3 elected congresscritters / senators. We also have a state owned bank and a state owned grain elevator. We ALWAYS vote republican for president. The state legislature has a republican "supermajority".

2. Bush. By a lot

3. Kerry stickers about 2:1

4. Kerry yard signs about 4:1

5. Not as much as I should, but all positive.

the people here will still vote bush, but they don't seem proud of it (unlike 2000 when there were bush stickers and signs all over the place)

12. I am from a red state
Although my town the state capital does lean Democratic. I have seen zero, as in none, yard signs for Bush* and only a very few bumper stickers for him. The ones I have seen are the little W all by itself. very hard to notice. I have seen many Kerry bumper stickers but no yard signs. The majority of the yard signs I have seen are for Tony Knowles our Democratic candidate for US Senate. His signs way outnumber those for the Republican incumbent senator. I have a good feeling about this one.

dozens and dozens of Kerry signs, zero bushturds

about 200 houses, spoke to one bushturd supporter, kind of lukewarm; one Nader supporter also lukewarm, lots of Kerry enthusiasm.

16. New Jersey
1. North central NJ.
2. State = democratic, but my district is predominently Republican.
3. WAY more Kerry bumper stickers. I've been actively looking for Bush stickers for the past month & I've only seen 3.
4. More Kerry yard signs than Bush, but not very many of either one. LOTS of local candidate signs for both parties.
5. Yes. Most people don't mention it at all. The only real response I received was a sales clerk in a major department store at the mall who rang up my purchase using her employee discount. :)

18-24 years old favoring Bush? LOL, I don't think so. It's just not going to happen. :toast:

17. I'm in PA too.
Are you East, West, or middle (i.e., Pennsyltucky)?

I'm East...Bethlehem, PA to be exact. TONS of Kerry signs, very few Bush signs. But this is a traditionally Dem town...think steel mills and union guys.

My first-grader told me that everyone on her school bus wants John Kerry to win, "because he's nice to people and we won't have any more wars."

From her lips to God's ears...

19. Oh I'm definitely in Pennsyl-tucky!
We're about 20 minutes northwest of Reading (it's pretty red-necky out here), right off 222 and 78. Bethlehem isn't far at all from us - we're maybe 50 minutes from Allentown.

If I seriously considered how many of each sticker and sign I've seen, I'd say * has edged out Kerry. But considering this is what I consider to be VERY conservative, the fact that Kerry BS and YS can even COMPETE with * signs to me seems like a good sign.

I am such a pessimist. All I concentrate on is the negative! Today when I was putting up K/E signs along 222 and 422, this woman literally followed me for two or three miles until I stopped again, got out of her car and asked if I could tell her where she could buy a K/E sign. She said she and her husband were about to make one to put in their yard! She offered to pay me for it but I just gave it to her. Plus, as I was putting them up, lots of people were honking and giving thumbs-up (especially where I was replacing the sign that has been stolen twice).

And BTW, what the kids on the bus said was the sweetest thing I've ever heard! :)

18. Central Alabama
Near Birmingham

AL went solid for Bush in 2000

Very few bumper stickers, but more Bush than Kerry, usually on upscale vehicles

Middle class, white neighborhood: More yard signs than last time, about 5% have one, equal numbers for Kerry and Bush.

I don't wear buttons.

20. 1. Orlando, FL
2. I guess Bush.
3. I'd say about 50/50. It depends on what area of town you are driving in. If you go into the rich areas, there are lots of Bush stickers. My apartment complex seems to be very pro-Kerry. Someone put up a Kerry sticker on the window in our laundry room. Nobody seemed to care. It might still be there. If it is gone, it's most likely management removed it. I've noticed a couple cars in the parking lot with Kerry stickers. No one has Bush stickers here. From talking to people at the pool, I can tell many of them are not fond of Bush and the big issue is the poor state of the economy. At least 70% of the residents at my complex are Hispanic.
4. Only seen a few Bush signs, no Kerry signs. Most people don't own their own property around here, which is why there aren't so many political signs.
5. I have a Kerry sticker on my purse. Haven't gotten any comments so far.

21. Capitol Hill - DC
1. Where do you live?
12 Blocks from the U.S. Capitol

2. Did your state go for * or Gore in 2000?
Heh, heh, about 87% Gore. Our current Evil Landlord could not even get 10% of the vote

Due to the proximity of the Capitol, this is one of the most Republican hoods in the city. Still, the Kerry sign/sticker advantage is at least 4:1. In other places like Adams-Morgan and Columbia Heights, it's easily 10:1. Typically, the few Bush stickers are on huge obnoxious SUVs - go figure!

5. Do you wear your Kerry button? If so, what response do you get?
No, but my buddy wore his in Europe and made many fast friends while we were traveling over there last month!
