Did Norway have an ad in the print Washington Post today? Anti Bush?
I got this from a person in DFA via Democracy for Florida.

http://www.tellhim.no/dokumenter/annonse.pdf
Tell him! Tell Bush!

When the Norwegian government doesn't tell George W. Bush the Norwegian opinion on the Iraqi war, we have to tell him ourselves. That is why two ads are printed in todays edition of the Washington Post (the 12th of October).
You can find the ad here
Today we clearly speak out our opinion and concern about the war in Iraq.

More than 80% of all Norwegians opposed the US led war in Iraq. A majority also favours the withdrawal of Norwegian forces from Iraq. Still, Norway is perceived as uncritical supporter of the US "war on terror". Norway is on the "willing list" of countries that support this policy, and President George W. Bush also mentioned Norway specifically in his State of the Union-speech this year.

Tellhim.no have therefore collected money for two ads in the Washington Post where we explain the general Norwegian opinion about the war in Iraq, and George W. Bush foreign policy.

We do not think the US "war on terror" decreases worldwide terror - on the contrary. We are opposing the war on Iraq, we are against the harassment and torture that we have seen.

Here is the text from the pdf;
SNIP.."
The Honorable George W. Bush
President of the United States
Washington, DC
Mr. President
As friends of the United States, we respect your country’s strength, creativity and generosity. At this point in
history however, we are compelled to speak out. Four out of five Norwegians oppose the U.S.-led war on
Iraq and our government has failed to clearly express the majority opinion of its people.
Mr. President – we urge you to change your foreign policy. To pursue a flawed and failed policy is a sign of
weakness. We want the United States to be strong and creative enough to apologize to the Iraqi people for
an unjust war, and to the Allies for having misled them. We want the USA to be generous enough to
compensate the innocent victims of violence, looting and trauma inflicted by torture. We firmly believe that
the quest for peace in Iraq is best led by the United Nations and a democratically-elected Iraqi government.
Mr. President – your country can once again be a leading example of democracy and freedom, inspiring a
world where terrorism can no longer breed. Your present policy only fosters resistance, more than ever,
everywhere.
Mr. President – the choice is yours.
Sincerely
Concerned citizens and organizations of Norway"

1. Yes.
It was on the back of the Metro section.

That's the B Section if you're not from the area.

I hope a bunch of other countries do the same thing. Shrub and his freeper cultists don't care what them damn ferriners think, but maybe some of our citizens will pull their heads out of their butts and think about how this regime has turned the United States into a rogue nation.

On edit: Let's tell them we appreciate their efforts: post@tellhim.no

7. Oh, well, THAT explains it

Little joke there.

This is superb. I love seeing people of the world take steps that their government won't on their behalf -- take their power back. 'You have the power!'

Terrific.

8. Yup. "Uffda" was one of my first 100 words.
Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 10:45 AM by TahitiNut
Followed by "lutefisk," "fiskeboller," and "smorgasbord." :silly:
In my family, "Ja, ubetcha" was just an ordinary way of saying "yes."

It's especially noteworthy, I think, for Norwegians to take such an activist stance. It's really not considered polite to "stand out" in Norway's culture. Star athletes (like gold medalists in the Olympics) would be shunned if they played the "Cassius Clay Card" (I'm the greatest) - instead they're obliged to demonstrate gratitude along with a bit of embarrassment and humility.
