HER of Ohio pulls Sinclair Ads
Edited on Tue Oct-12-04 11:16 PM by Carla in Ca
This is from Dailykos <http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/10/12/12574/117>

by JBLIII
I just got off the phone with Alix (?) the marketing director for HER Realtors here in Columbus. She told me they have pulled their ads from WSYX and WTTE, the local Sinclair stations. Our conversation went something like... "I've seen your ads on WSYX and WTTE--" " Not anymore." This is huge! HER is one of their biggest advertisers

Add: It is also interesting to read the comments. This is a big company. Many in Ohio have called them to say they will use them in the future.

2. Good, I hope they keep losing advertisers too
This is great news. I have been hearing a lot of people talking about this whole subject all day today around work and out in the general public.

5. Mall of America replied to me (very rudely and with NO customer service
skills whatsoever in evidence...) and this was it:

Mall of America hasn't advertised on TV since March and takes no political
stand.

Coulda sworn I had seen MOA commercials on tv more recently, but anyhow. That is the only non-automated response I have received so far.

6. Man, Sinclair stockholders must be pissing blood right about now
but this is probably a govt. subsidized company, if you know what I mean.

Damn those welfare mothers, less corporate welfare to go around.

7. That should be 'the other shoe' to drop (stockholders)
Their stock was down today, and many think tomorrow might be the start of big, big trouble.

10. David Smith: striking it rich with Sinclair. (owns most of the stock)
David Smith: striking it rich with Sinclair. (Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. president)(Cover Story)(Interview)

Jessell, Harry A. Rathbun, Elizabeth A.

Broadcasting & Cable

August 19, 1996

It seems that every broadcaster has a strong opinion of David Smith, the latest king of TV-station consolidation. Critics say his business techniques push the regulatory envelope (see story, "Top of the Week"). Friends counter that criticism of the blunt-speaking Smith is sour grapes over his success.

Besides owning more TV stations than any other broadcaster (29), Smith is using LMAs in a way that some say pushes the regulatory envelope (see story, "Top of the Week"). But Smith, president of Baltimore-based Sinclair Broadcast Group, doesn't care what others think. His recent acquisition of River City Broadcasting's 10 TV and 31 radio stations is just the beginning, he says.

Smith is consolidating not just because it's " a rather obvious thing to do." The future according to Smith lies in broadcast spectrum. The more stations, meaning the more spectrum, the better.
Smith expects to ride spectrum space to the top.

....snip...

unfortunately to read the rest, you have to have a paid subscription..This snippet pretty much tells us what kind of a guy he is:grr:
