The ANGRY Bush: Straight out of Hitler's Playbook
Watching a film the other day, it doesn't matter which one... there was a clip of a Hitler speech where he began to roll anger into his words. For a second I thought I saw his face morph into *... It was early and a little surreal.

Rove's forcing Bush to emphasize the anger is a rhetoricl trick straight out of Goebbels playbook. Look for more of the same tonight... complete with DEMONIZATION of the opponent. He will us the word Liberal and I think Bush will stop just short of calling Kerry a traitor for his position on the war.

I don't usually buy into the whole Bush/NAZI analogy, but this time it was the posturing and the language...

I have NO doubt Bush and Rove believe this crap... the only drawback is that Bush is a TERRIBLE speaker...

-----------------------------------------------

The Führer as a Speaker

by Dr. Joseph Goebbels

There are two fundamentally different kinds of speakers: those who use reasoning, and those who speak from the heart. They reach two different sorts of people, those who understand through reason, and those who understand through the heart. Speakers who aim for the reason are generally found in parliaments, those who speak from the heart speak to the people.

The speaker who uses reason, if he is to be effective, must command a wide range of statistical and factual material. He must be a master of dialectic as the pianist is master of the keyboard. With ice cold logic, he develops his line of thinking and draws irrefutable conclusions. He is most effective with people who work primarily or exclusively with reason. Big and compelling successes are denied him. He does not understand how to fire up the masses for a great cause. He is limited to educational discourse. Since he is cold, he leaves his listeners cold. At best he persuades people, but never mobilizes them and sets them marching, regardless of their own ideas or the element of personal risk involved.

The speaker from the heart is different. He may have the skills of the master of reasoning. They are however only tools he uses as a true rhetorical virtuoso. He has abilities not found in the reasoning speaker. He combines clear diction with simple argumentation, and instinct tells him what to say and how to say it. Language is united with ideas. He knows the secret corners and aspects of the mass soul and knows how to reach and touch them. His speeches are masterpieces of declamation. He outlines people and conditions; he inscribes his theses on the tablet of the age; with deep and noble passion he explains the pillars of his world view. His voice reaches out from the depths of his blood into the depths of the souls of his listeners. He brings to expression the secrets of the human soul. He rouses the tired and lazy, fires up the indifferent and the doubting, turns cowards into men and weaklings into heroes... http://www.calvin.edu/academic/cas/gpa/ahspeak.htm

2. Scary. I hate to watch him. My age grew up with a nut like that in the
news. We used to see him every time we went to the movies. My mother-in-law lived in NYC in the 30's and that party was good size there. Course in the 30's 40's war and nuts like that were every place.Bush seems to want to ride to power in front of a matching army. The bigger problem, that about half the voters also want this. It may be from 50 years of a cold war and now a live war sounds like fun.

3. And by what right, "Anger"
Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 04:21 AM by sweetheart
To be indignant, there must be an insult percieved, and i think
they've extended their militarism to identify with the military soooo
much, that to question their wars is to deny the rightful honour
and justice that the military SHOULD recieve for its honourable work.

However, a civilian is in charge of the services for a reason, and
that reason is not to ape the services, to to dress up in uniforms
and play war. Rather to enforce that the military serves civilian
americans, by defending the constitution and its rights and freedoms.

Then they've extended their ego's to think of themselves as defenders
of the constitution when civilians are none of that... wrong.
Civilians ARE the constitution. We have every right to demand total
and utter humility from our paid servants (military).

And yet the beast of this patriarchal anger has become an international
virus, infecting weak-minded people, who lack any balanced sense of
identity, and are rather deeply moved to be part of an identity that
will claim them so long as they bully anyone who questions the
divine right of the military to usurp the constitution in "wartime".

What a convenient excuse, that the rules don't apply in "wartime".

I'm seriously wondering if an election is the right thing. I really
do honestly believe that impeachment and putting on trial of the
whole administration for conspiracy to wage aggressive war and
to perpatrate war crimes. And as well, a full discovery and a
truth-commission for military brass and senior members of the
government, that they are safely retired if they come clean to the
public on their criminal activities.

Losing an election is really not setting the right precedent.

8. The Bush family's sense of entitlement and Leo Strauss' concept
of an Elite as the only group capable of governing the masses were perfectly made for each other.Bush, in spite of his intellectual and mental shortcomings, believes he is superior to all of us.I am sure that stealing an election does not even bother him because he thinks he just got what is his due anyway.Besides, Al Gore didn't deserve it.So, on to the next phase of the program which is to consolidate his power. In this old man Leo is going to play his part.He has , of course, given his imprimatur for the Great Leader to lie at will to the masses to advance the Leader's agenda.

The statement " This is an Empire, etc.....", does not surprise me one bit.

4. Bush is speaking to cult members
the same way Hitler connected with his cult members.

A long time ago I had a German language teacher who was one of Hitler's "youths" -- and she said that they thought of Hitler as a god. In fact she wrote a book called "I changed Gods" -- when she came to the US with her husband they "found" religion. Ironically they joined a right wing fundamentalist Christian church (SDA).

There is a personality type that is drawn to cult leaders --

SO could it be that the bulge on bush's back is a link to someone who is a real cult leader? I wonder where Rev. Moon is -- or perhaps one of his enforcers or General in his personal army??

bush does seem to be able to "emotionally" link to his followers -- and we have seen how he used code words to motivate his followers.

There is a hell of a lot of psychological manipulation going on -- but the cult members will only respond to the emotional manipulations. They can't hear his mangled English -- in fact perhaps this is part of the method.

We can hear the mangled words and phrases -- because we are not cult members.

5. I think it is a very big mistake
to just dismiss Bush's rhetorical technique as inadequate or fascist.

What Goebbels says in your quote is not typical Nazism, it is just basic rhetorical wisdom. True, the "declamation", "voice reaches out", "fires up" parts are descriptions of Hitler's style -- but this is completely outdated. He spoke to an audience used to speakers on badly functioning radio receivers who had to "declame" and raise their voices. Nowadays, such speech merely sounds overblown and ridiculous.

What Bush does, he connects with the ordinary simpleton. Don't forget that they constitute a large chunk of the electorate! Don't "misunderestimate" his technique, to borrow a phrase ... even his malapropisms and mispronunciations work in his favor with this part of the audience. He manages to come across as not being "elitist" or conceited.

Kerry's main target audience in this election may be different, it is probably the moderate swing voter, the "reasonable republican" or something like that. To these people his rhetorical style may sound just about right. But to sound convincing to people with lesser education, you'll have to get emotional and raise passions, maybe more so than Kerry has yet been able to. At least he should put in some more jokes and witticisms, that is something he is certainly capable of and sure works well also.

6. Here's Poppy "speaking from the heart"

"I bring you greetings," Bush told the crowd. "My first greetings are from Dan Rather," he said, drawing light cheers and scattered boos at the mention of the CBS News anchor's name.

He tried again — "I bring you greetings from Michael Moore," inciting even more boos.

The third greeting, from Barbara Bush, prompted an eruption of applause. "

This is a more explicit sample - of the "tecnique" - otherwise known as whipping the villagers into a frenzy before reaching for pitchforks and torches.

9. talking points for dittoheads, for sure
but in order to counter that Kerry could use some knock-out punchlines himself. But then it may well be impossible to "reach out" to these folks ... what do I know.
