Poll question: Do You Take The Terror Warnings Seriously? |
|
Do you think that there's genuine concern based on credible intelligence, or do you believe that they are politically motivated?

12. Yes, but at Citicorp center the NYPD has just stepped up |
|
surveillance even more than previously. I walk by it every morning and the entrances are heavily guarded. I think they know by now that New Yorkers aren't buying "terra alerts" but I am wondering if the NYPD would go through all this expense and trouble if there wasn't at least SOME legitimacy to the threat.
Who knows though, could be another Bloomberg snow job.

is totally useless. If terrorists want to strike, they'll do it regardless of red/gree/fuchsia/magenta/taupe/seafoam stupid color scales. It was so obvious that the whole terror alert was political that it wasn't even taken seriously. Too much "crying wolf" and people won't take it seriously.

8. Well, ya gotta admit it's better than the duct tape and plastic. |
|
The color codes don't make a lot of sense, but the duct tape & sheets of plastic, which was their first idea I think, were really bizarre!

9. Political but by whom? |
|
The question becomes political but who is the source? 1) Rove - 2) Al Quieda - 3) Other -
It sure would be one way for OBL to help get * elected.

10. It's a boy-who-cried-wolf thing |
|
If the FBI did pick up on a legit terror threat, they by law would have to warn the nation thru the Magical Mystery Panic Rainbow. Of course first responders and security professionals have to take these wolf-cries seriously. But no thinking person completely trusts them. They can't be completely political--real public servants who are doing their best to keep us safe are working the system too.
But it's still a Magical Mystery Panic Rainbow system meant to keep us "sheep" in line and skeered about the wolves.

11. I can honestly say that I'm not very concerned |
|
about terrorism. the collapse of our environment concerns me, the deficit concerns me, the state of healthcare concerns me, global conflict concerns me. I live in a large city, but not NY, LA, or Chicago, so I don't think of myself as living in a "targeted" area. I think I have a much better chance of being killed by some idiot SUV driver on the freeway than by muslim extremists.
A friend of mine thinks people support * because they feel he took the danger "over there"...away to Iraq, and now the "bad guys" are no longer a threat in the US. He may be right, but regardless, I've never thought of terrorism as a threat to me personally. Even on 9/11, I was trying to get on a plane to Norway. Some people thought I was nuts, but c'mon-why would a plane to Oslo be threatened? Get a grip!
