I may have just been denied my right to vote.

The RNC has been going around under the guise of a non-profit organization registering votes and then trashing those forms registering democrat.

There's been a bunch of voter registration drives on campus where I registered to vote a couple of weeks ago. I just called up my county election office to see if I was registered, I was not.

The deadline to register was yesterday.

Somebody's going to pay.

2. Tell the RNC
Tell them you had registered as a "Democrat" but had been persuaded to vote for Bush and can they get you registered. Couldn't hurt

local stations and contact cable and network news. They'll pick this story up if they have a victim.

7. You have been given an opportunity
Contact the media and go down to the registrar and ask to register to vote. Explain the sitution and ask for a remedy for the illegal acts by the group. Ask that they accept your registration and others like you and wait for a court to decide. Ask the Dem party to request a court intervention to require an extension of the deadline. Remember, Dems have the lawyers this time. Let's use them.

21. THIS is good advice. (by cally)
Deal directly with registrar's office. they are the ones that have the power to register you to vote. Take media, take Democratic party backup in the form of LAWYERS. Get on the phone and start calling your local D party office. Call the media. Make it into a NEWS EVENT. You can have fun with this.

Fight. Keep us updated.

8. Check with the registrar and report that you registered and when and where
EVeyone who recently registered and is unsure of whom they registered with needs to do this. I've been registered for years and we checked our registration a couple of weeks ago just to make sure there was no tampering. I registered for absentee status directly with the Registrar of Voters twice and they have no record of it.

where I was a registrar there was a perforated place on the bottom of the card that acts like a receipt. It has the registrars number on it. Do you have anything like that?

9. I'm sorry
I hope you can sort this out.

My wife and I were worried about making sure we were registered properly so we did it at the DMV while we were in town. Then we called over a week before the registration deadline to the county registrar to confirm that we were registered.

I've got my voter card now, so I'm happy.

Still, it's just bs that this happened to you. Did you get any kind of receipt or anything when you registered on campus? What was the name of the organization?

18. Call your Secretary of State's office and Attorney General's office
and the FBI - the FBI is currently investigating this fraud (there is a thread with the article out of Las Vegas on this).

The company that registered voters in Vegas was largely funded by RNC and has left the state (non-payment of rent) and Reno has had similar complaints. (Company is Voters Outreach)

20. this happened to me once; it is maddening
in my case I was voting at the same address, same polling place for about five years, always voting, never missing an election. SO this city council and school bond thing came up and they didn't have me on their poll sheets. So I went home and got my voting card, went back there with it and they said sorry you are not on our list. ANd they wouldn't let me vote!!!! I called the County election board and all these other places and they basically said well the vote is counted, blah, blah, blah.

28. Maybe a dumb question, but on the back of my voter
summary the "voter bill of rights" says "you have the right to cast a provisional ballot if your name is not listed on the voting rolls"; what is a provisional ballot and why isn't it offered when missing names appear at the polling places?

32. good point, but when I was standing there arguing with them after
showing them the valid up-to-date card, they just would not let me vote. These two judges are just going through their computer list and I was not on that list for some reason. No one ever mentioned a provisional ballot and I never thought of asking for one. I was SO mad I can't even tell you. Now I always vote Dem and I am in a hugely GOP area and maybe that was their way of showing me a thing or two. I just don't know. But when you show them your driver's license and that card with the same address along with the precinct number and everything printed out.... I am still mad about it just writing this. It can happen again in a few weeks.

22. And, THIS year EVERYBODY
should be able to cast a provisional ballot if you think you are registered to vote and are not on the lists at the polls. This is according to Help America Vote Act. So it's national.

23. Now that's dirty dealing.
Not only do the above suggestions, especially any legal voting venue, like the Secretary of State, but contact someone with a national forum, like a journalist (Molly Ivins f'instance) or Al Franken or Randi Rhodes.

25. I just called the OR secretary of state office - elections div
Here is the web site:
http://www.oregonvotes.org/index.htm

Here is the phone number:
1.866.673.8683

The person I talked to said that there wasn't really anything a person can do, because the elections office has no way of validating that you actually registered prior to the cutoff date. The final registration date is set by statute.

She did say that it was being investigated.

Here are a couple of related news articles:
http://www.katu.com/news/story.asp?ID=71805
http://www.oregonlive.com/newsflash/regional/index.ssf?/base/news-8/1097647496301300.xml&storylist=orlocal

I think your best bet is to call and get added to the investigation. It would be really good if you can find that receipt.

Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 05:24 PM by nebula
neither can or will the FBI, or anyone else. That's why they don't even care that their RNC name is prominently attached to this company. That's how arrogant they've become. They essentially are the FBI, the Supreme Court, etc.

The only answer is voter education and awareness of the potential for voter fraud and how to avoid becoming victimized by it. The kind of voter awareness and education that the incompetent DUMBOcratic leadership should have been working to raise long before the very last minute.
