Migraine from Hell Tonight |
|
AND I can't get any sleep.
Thankfully President Kerry whipped shrubs tail, so tonight isn't a complete wash....

I get migraines too and they're the worst. Have you ever tried lying in a dark room with a warm compress on your eyes? That sometimes helps me.
I sometimes take Zomig for them but they don't always work. My doc gives me Vicodin to alternate with but I don't like taking too much of that, either.
Here's hoping you feel better and get some sleep soon. :hi:

I get them too...complete with visual hallucinations and everything. They're pretty infrequent for me though.
Best thing is to just lie quietly in a dark room. Over the counter medicine can also help as well.
Feel better soon!

I get them too but not so much anymore.
I sometimes get relief from otc allergy/flu type medicine and strong coffee or tea.
I also get warnings first in the form of visual flashes and spots of light so usually can get head them off.....
but sometimes nothing helps but time...

5. I use ice packs on my forehead/side of my head and warm on my neck |
|
I bought several of the reusable gel icepacks so that I always have a reserve in the freezer. I finally found a brand where the covering holds up well. I am at work and don't remember the name of the manufacturer, but it is a blue material on one side with a nylon white side and a black elastic/velcro band. I can wrap it around my head and look pretty silly.
I use the microwave heatable 'bed buddy' around my neck. This is filled with grains I think, but it is affectionately known in my house as mommy's beans.
This hot/cold therapy doesn't always help, but it does offer some relief.
I can't always afford the designer drugs and am limited to 12/month by my insurance co. I have also been getting occipital nerve blocks which I think help, they seem to make the migraines I do get less painful.
Take care of yourself. Relax, have some tea. Go to bed.

6. I had one earlier today.. most of the day.. |
|
A mildish one.. but it was there. I'm sorry for your migraine. I forced myself to get up and bake cookies after the debate.. and my headache melted away. My migraines are tension related. I still get the hangover when the ache goes away, but I feel much better now. Try to sleep...

but the only absolute cure I've found for migraines is Botox. I read about it in a magazine years ago (women who were getting Botox for wrinkles never had another migraine). I was getting migraines 2-3 times a month, and woke up with a tension headache every morning. I was taking 2-8 Tylenol daily, which isn't exactly safe. I'm self employed, so the time lost from work was expensive. I got four injections of Botox between my eyebrows. NO migraines or ANY headaches for six months! (Botox starts to wear off after 6-8 months; I just get another shot). I haven't had a migraine in five years. I highly recommend it.

one theory of migraines is that they are nerve/blood vessel related, so it would make sense that deadening the nerve endings would take care of migraines.
Another curious cure was found in heart surgery. A number of migraine sufferers have found their migraines gone forever after heart surgery, I can't remember what kind, exactly.

10. I think I'll stick with the botox over heart surgery |
|
;-)
Doctors still haven't absolutely defined what it is in the Botox that stops the migraines. I have a feeling that a lot of drug manufacturers DON"T want it approved by the FDA for that purpose.

I have the throw-up kind of migraines. I make my self throw-up, makes the head ache go away much faster.
