My thoughts on all this is the right is trying to preach to their base of fundie christians. They don't want to speak about gays when a gay person is part of their circle. They want to demonize others but not their own. We know according to them being a homosexual is evil, the bible says, we can cure them, yaddda yadda yadda. The one thing that sticks out is that being straight or gay does not play more heavily on the right or left. There are many people in society who belong to one party or the other, one religion or the other, both conservatives and liberals who are gay. One does not choose your sexual perference, it is the way you are born.

Personally I do not make it a point to judge any one based on this. I have known great gay people and great straight people but I have also encounters some gays who were jerks and straights who were jerks.

My take on where the Dem party is taking this is that gay people are part of every society, alot of families have these types of issues (for lack of a better term) to deal with. We should not make this such a big issue. Maybe by talking about we can all just get past it. Gays want no special rights they just want to be equals and live their lives without fear of prosecution and discrimination.
