Bush resented Kerry getting laughs too.
At the end of the debate when Shieffer asked Bush and Kerry about their wives, or whatever the question was ( I tuned out a bit when I realized that the debates were going to end on such a soft ball note) Bush made his comment about Laura (I don't remember what it was) and got laughs from the audience. When Kerry started to talk about the women in his life, and got a few laughs, it seems to me that there was resentment all over Bush's face. He didn't crack a smile. He looked as though he couldn't stand the fact that Kerry had managed to get laughs from the audience as well. It was one of many telling moments.

8. Me, too
With all the one-liners he was making that went totally flat, you could tell he was really pissed that people were laughing at Kerry's comment. His expression seemed to say "Hey, I'm supposed to be the funny one."

2. He probably bought into his own handlers' claims that he's the funny one,
and Kerry is the dull, serious one. Bush spent the whole evening making (bad) jokes and smiling and laughing at inopportune times.

Hell, maybe he's as surprised at the "real" Kerry as the media is.

Got news for you, George. He's been the real Kerry all along.

Kerry had better jokes, end of story.

4. Kerry also mentioned his mother
I could see Bush thinking, "Damn I should have mentioned my mother."

Kerry bested him everywhere.

By the by, I think the joke Bush told was that Laura speaks English better then he does.

5. i noticed that, but i think it was because
bush didn't understand what kerry was referring to. when kerry said, "but i think i married higher" bush probably thought he was insulting laura... or perhaps didn't KNOW what to think.

remember, we're dealing with a very DIM son here.

6. How many of Bush's jokes fell flat, and how many of Kerry's got laughs?
Even the lame Sopranos reference got more chuckles than Bush.

14. Bush did make one joke that got absolutely no laughs at all
I can't recall what it was now, but the lack of response was *really* glaring. He did his typical, a girlish giggle and a sh*t-eating grin, but there wasn't a peep from the audience. Pretty excrutiating.

7. The audience WASN'T supposed to react.
That they were permitted to respond without a caution from the moderator was a failing of Schieffer.

11. How can Schieffer caution the audience when he was....
the one doing all the giggling? LOL, Schieffer almost lost it.

9. I caught that too! What a dick!
I can't wait until the day after the election, so we can picket the white house yelling "GET OUTTA KERRY'S HOUSE!" He acts like he is owed the presidency and how dare anyone challenge him.

12. Wait until January, when Kerry takes his desk.
He's going to throw a real man-boy fit.
