Does Anybody Think It Was The Word "Lesbian" That Got The Right All...
in a tizzy?

Would it have made any difference if Kerry had referred to Cheney's daughter as "Gay" instead?

I'm not at all concerned about the right's tizzy, in fact I think they're reaching, because the writing on the wall has become pretty clear. They're done!

But I do trip on words, and the effect of word usage, and I just wonder if those that actually did get offended by Kerry's remarks last night, would have found it any easier to take... softer... if he had mentioned Cheney's gay daughter instead of his lesbian daughter???

BTW - Ole Limpballs was in a fit over this this morning, and it was a joy to hear the desperation in his voice. Rush ain't so cocky right about now, ya know?

2. Absolutely.
Withness Joe Scarborough and Kathy Griffin last night. They can handle "gay" but say the word "lesbian" and they go off the deep end.

5. Give me a frickin' break.
It was because these manipulators sensed they could manipulate Kerry's words to make him look bad to their "base" - and if it wasn't the word "lesbian" it could have been any other word or phrase Kerry used.

There's no appeasing these pitbulls - only neutralizing them, and the Kerry camp seems to have a talent for just that.

24.

8. You bet! You can have one in the family, but you never talk about it
and you certainly never mention the words "lesbian" or "homosexual" in polite company. In other words, you may love your children, but you must never, never fully acknowledge to the world just who and what they are. It's the rhinoceros in the Cheney parlor, and they've probably never used the word themselves, not since Lynne got over her fascination with lesbian bodice ripper authorship.

After all, one may still take "gay" in the old sense of the word, as in light hearted and cheerful.

9. Please it's not the word
It's the effect it has on fundamental Christians. In their warped minds having a gay daughter makes you some kind of a freak. I recommend we keep talking about this ad-nauseum. This makes Cheney somewhat less appealing (less christian).

10. I think both Cheneys are so pissed at Bush for his stance
or nonstance (he doesn't know if homosexuality is a choice or not), that they are projecting their anger onto Kerry because they can't publically tell their base what an asshole the prez is. Also, that is their way of pandering to their base. They have to have an excuse since they can't say we support our daughter and not Bush.

I think Kerry knew very well that this would piss them off.

Why aren't they incensed...if indeed they are, at Allen Keyes calling their daughter a hedonist. Didn't hear them screaming about that. I also think Lynne isn't really angry. If I get angry, my tone of voice and my face will reflect it. Hers did not in the least.

12. Cheney is as usual flip flopping on the issue.
Cheney keeps his daughter right in the forefront of his campaign to show how "family friendly" they are, but the minute Kerry says anything, even though it was something nice about her, Kerry is the one using Mary Cheney as a political tool.

Cheney 'em all....

13. Anyone see
The log Cabin GOP's response?

Senator Kerry could have made his point about gay and lesbian Americans without mentioning the Vice-President's daughter.

However, this shouldn't distract us from the fact that President Bush, Karl Rove and other Republicans have been using gay and lesbian families as a political wedge issue in this campaign.

Log Cabin Republicans have a message for both campaigns. For Senator Kerry and Senator Edwards, you do not need to talk about the Vice President's daughter in order to discuss your positions on gay and lesbian issues. For President Bush and Karl Rove, you have a moral obligation to stop using gay and lesbian families as a political wedge issue. Our country and our party deserve better."

In essence, don't forget the REAL issue here, Bush wants to shove all gays back into the closet.
