Will fundie children rebel, and become another.... |
|
Woodstock generation? Really. I remember (I'm a child of the 60's) that my generation rebelled against the Ward and June Cleaver version of American life. And they were a hell of a lot less repressed than your average fundie of today. Will today's right wing, fundie children become the Janis Joplins, Jimi Hendrix's and Timothy Learys of the future? I must admit, it was a whole lot of fun while it lasted.

1. No. They Are Too Thoroughly Brainwashed |
|
Nothing but church, church schools, and church-related social activities for those kids. A few develop a capability for independent thought, but most are brainwashed for life.

...I grew up with kids that had the most wacked out fundie parents you will ever meet (southern baptists), that grew out of it in their late teens / early twenties, and never looked back.
A lot of them joined the military, and once out of the nest, and seeing that there is indeed a real world out there, it changed them big.

3. Some leave; some don't. |

My brother and I both left "the faith," but he's as big a Republican as ever: the Ayn Rand "objectivist."
Kids that get to see outside the box may eventually rebel, but others hold fast to the only "reality" they've ever known. To rebel means to put yourself at odds with everyone you ever knew and believe me, it hurts a lot.
Most children of fundies don't make it out. Those that do face great hardship.
