How would Al Gore be doing if he were the nominee? |
|
Just curious. Would the big corporations have tried to rip him to shreds? Would the electorate be behaving any differently than they are now?
Would we still be close to winning?

had 9/11 happened, he might not've run again. The GOP and media would've probably blamed it on him and Clinton, reasoning that they'd held the executive branch for the previous 9 years. Gore might've seen the writing on the wall and decided not to seek a second term.

2. I think fine. Gore as pres. could have prevented 9/11 attacks. |

3. Just the thought of Gore as president the last 4 years makes me |

sick. To think of everything good that would have happened and instead we have this stupid jerk in the White House instead. The pain is just too much to bare. To think we came so close to heaven and have been pulled into hell.

as in running for reelection or running after having it stolen last time (rematch against Bush)?
If Gore were president during the last few years, there is a possibility that the dots would have been connected early on and 9/11 may nolt have happened. Gore was quite active in national security affairs during the Clinton administration. It's likely he would have been on top of things.
If 9/11 did happen under Gore's watch, then the GOP would have tarred and feathered him. It would have been insane...and he would have faced great political preasures to resign earlier, he may have been impeached, or he may not seeked reelection. The "rally around the flag" effect surely wouldn't have been the same as the RW knuckedragging freeper types would never have shown him the respect liberals showed Bush after 9/11 (I'll admit I gave him the benefit of the doubt for sometime -- what a mistake).
As for having a rematch, it's tough to say. Gore had been defined by the media already. His changes in expression (his recent energy and enthusiasm), his awesome (and scathing) critiques may have been all been hammered on. They would say he's "redifining himself" again..."Who's the real Al Gore?", etc...
Also, Bush would have kept blaming 9/11 on Gore and Clinton. For some reason many people put more blame on Clinton than Bush for the attacks.
Gore was clear and consistant on the war though. He was a fierce critic of the war and the PATRIOT Act as well. Many former voters would likely have voted for him again as would the Nader voters (I'd imagine they'd feel even more guilty for not doing so).
