1. I just love this Idea....It is not very costly and can make some
really good statemnets, and be seen by alot of people.

2. I did two last night...my first time!
Check out http://www.freewayblogger.com/

My advice:

1. Have somebody go with you, both as a lookout and to help put things up. Also have them help scout potential sites.

2. Be as legal as you can...for instance, do not drink and then go do this, make sure you have ID, etc. Use common sense.

3. Wear boots. Man, it's incredible the amount of crap on the sides of the road.

Have fun!

3. You need an overhead projector to make the really good looking signs
with a cool font, like "Times New Roman". Get a big piece of cardboard, paint it white with acrylic, let it dry, project your witty slogan on the cardboard, outline the letters, fill them in with black. Post the sign in a very viewable place, and make the sign hard to extract.

You are soooo high tech.

Blog on, be safe.

5. Yup. Started Monday night, and have hit every night but tonite. (Gotta
sleep sometime) Wear dark clothes, make your signs, REALLY big for highway overpasses, and as rain proof possible. Carry a bag with tape, scissors, bungee cords, stapler, etc. Pick out your spots before hand. The harder it is to get up, the harder it is to get down. Remember when posting, People will tear them down. If the cops show up, be very open and polite, be sure they know it's not a frat prank. Definitely take someone with you, they will be a witness, you may need help getting things situated, or at least hold the flash light. It's intoxicating, you can say what you can't say in polite company. Go forth, Commit free speech and be careful.

7. Bungee cords?
If an activity involves those, I will have to pass.

No way I could handle the adrenaline of something like that. It would make me :puke:

More power to ya' though. I hope nobody gets arrested for this.

8. No to secure large sturdy signs so they don't fall off, I'm not talking
about repelling down a wall. You know, those little elastic cords which have hooks on each end.

6. My advice: Bring a friend.
That way, when you go <SPLAT> on the freeway, he/she will be there to mop you up.

Sounds really dangerous and stupid to me.

20. Yes, it was AWESOME!!!
I really, REALLY want to thank you again...this has really been a kick-start for me the last few days. I'm not one to go door to door, or call folks, and I was getting somewhat depressed because I felt like I wasn't pulling my weight, you know? I have registered about 16 neighbors, but that wasn't enough.

I went for a drive awhile ago, and one of them is still up (seriously, it will take some doing to get that one down). The other one I'm gonna check on later this afternoon.

I was gonna do two more this weekend, but I was gonna ask you...do you think it is better to do during the week? Less of a patrol car presence, maybe? I know you had a cop stop and ask what you were doing. I'm not too worried about it, but would rather not deal with it if I don't have to.

Also, did you send pictures to www.freewayblogger.com ?

21. If you do them over the weekend via a route to the mall that would
reach quite a few undecideds i'll bet. I'm so excited for you and so glad you had fun and didn't get "busted". Keep up the good work. Still haven't even taken pics, too much to do between work, volunteering & blogging. By the way are you in a swing state?

13. Effective, not stupid.
If you plan properly, not dangerous.

Definitely not stupid, though.

Very powerful.

14. Railway cars?
As I was sitting and sitting and sitting at a RR crossing, I noticed all the graffitti (some of it is outstanding and artistic) on the sides of railway cars. Those cars go all over the country, and sometimes they are just standing idle overnight in dark places. Is the penalty any worse for "decorating" a private railway car than for any other kind of "freeway blogging?"

16. I've been wondering about the fences next to rail lines. Think
commuter rails go to fast to read them?

24. my kid did some
she went with a contingent of high school kids and parents, they had 3 cars with a parent and two kids in each. They did it along I-94 in Detroit. The best part was in a coffee shop, the worker was all excited telling them what he'd seen - and they got to interrupt to say "THAT WAS US!!"

They used butcher paper edged with duct tape, because they didn't have room in the car for all the sheets of cardboard - this way they could just roll them up to fit them in.

I didn't feel like I could go, being a teacher here. (I hate being responsible.)

25. I'd love to freeway blog - and here's my idea...
My wife and I thought it would have a big impact if we could place a white cross for each of the soldiers that has died. We envisioned a sea of crosses with signs at either end that say something like "Vote Bush for more of these" or "1,000 reasons to vote Bush out" or something equally provocative.

There is a major highway linking the 'burbs with Dallas: Hwy 114. It runs through the heart of Bush country. We thought this would be an excellent place to put the crosses. And we planned to call the local media to give them a heads-up.

There were only two problems:

  1. I'm in a wheelchair and pretty useless for the task;

  2. There's no way we could put out 1,100 crosses quick enough to escape police intervention.

And in Texas, speaking against Bush is like speaking for him in Iraq. Your life would be in danger.

26. The cross thing would be okay
Put out the crosses first, people will think it's an abortion thing.

At the end, you put up the political relevance, because that won't take as long.
