Poll question: What party would you have been a member of 200 years ago? |
|
I have to say the Democratic-Republicans, while they were to big on states' rights and all that, the Federalists were warmongers and supported a huge federal government to a level that was almost totalitarian. And then there was the Alien and Sedition Acts. A lousy choice, but I see the Democratic-Republicans as a lesser of two evils.

6. Thomas Jefferson was a Democratic-Republican |
|
That's good enough for me.
I have had a mad crush on that man ever since I was about 15.

9. Neither. Both had glaring defects. |
|
Though I would certainly have leaned towards the DR's. Slavery was already a millstone around the nation's neck and the DR's, in effect, supported through states rights. The Federalists weren't a helluva lot bettter and worse in many ways.
Oddly enough, most of the "founding fathers" decried and feared political parties. Including Jefferson and Adams.

11. My parents liked Adams because of the Boston Massacre defense |

But they are strong liberals. So am I. Adams was opposed to the Alien and Sedition Acts. His party pushed for legislation and this destroyed him.
