But we can try, and see if that works. We can also boycott the sponsors of Sinclair, and send our emails and make our phone calls, and see if that works. I hope it does, this is the most reasonable approach.
And yes, electricity is important to many people. We certainly would not want to be inconvenienced in any way for any reason.
The thing is, our democracy is genuinely at stake in this election. If this propagandistic BS TV program, which is being aired despite the fact that it is a violation of the public trust and is possibly illegal, sways enough people to change the course of this election, the folks you are talking about being temporarily inconvenienced by a lack of electricity will experience a permanent inconvenience - such as the loss of freedom and democracy in America, permanent war, and for many, probable poverty - for the remainder of their lifetimes.
A whole lot of dirty deeds, including the compromising of our voting system, have been committed in order to throw this election to Bu$h - and no one seems to be able to do a damn thing about it through reasonable actions or through legal redress. When the government no longer acts to protect the interests of citizens, sometimes non-violent forms of legal "civil disobedience" become necessary for positive actions to occur.
If Bu$h "wins" this election through fraud and other dishonorable methods, such as SBC deliberately trying to use its media privileges and our public airwaves to sway the election, it will be too late for any legal redress. Bu$h and the PNAC will close the book on our democracy, and no amount crying and pleading is going to get it back. We need to prevent them from doing this.
Cleita, do you think it was wrong for American Colonists to throw the tea in the Harbor at what is known as the "Boston Tea Party", and do you think it was wrong that they inconvenienced some people, even possibly endangered them, by doing so?
I think that sometimes we may need to sacrifice our comfort and safety to preserve our liberty - and the Founders of our country seemed to believe this also.
We have meekly sat back and allowed a very aggressive dictatorship, the PNAC, to overthrow our democratic government through election fraud. We could have done something if we stood up and fought for ourselves in 2000, but did not, and we blew it, and we have paid dearly for it. If they steal this election, there will be nothing that we can do - they have established too much control - and legal redress will be impossible.
All of the greatest lawyers in the world cannot win in a court where there is no justice.
We either prevent them from stealing the election through their fraud and chicanery, or we lose democratic America forever.
Maybe what I have (half) jokingly written (because it would never happen) about legally causing a power outage to occur in order to prevent a dangerous mockery of our publicly owned press from taking place seems somewhat "radical" to you now.
A year from now you might have a different viewpoint.
But I hope not.
