Guilty of being a hypocrite, bigot, blowhard, hack, chauvinist pig, dissembler, liar, and prevaricator, no doubt.
About the sexual harassment charges...yeah, that would take a first hand look at the evidence. But, having had way too much to do with SH lawsuits in the late Eighties and early Nineties, he fits and acts pretty much the SH perp type IMHO.

Whether or not he's guilty of sexual harassment, he has not denied making any of the phone calls and that will kill his career. I personally don't care if the woman gets a dollar from Mr. Pompous as long as he's driven from the airwaves. Stick a fork in Bill, he's done.

We hate him because he's an asshole, and now even RWers hate him because he hasn't been frothing at his mouth supporting every little thing that comes out of the chimps mouth. This little gem doesn't help him with them either.
His undoing is now inevitable.

When the tapes of him they made the transcripts from surface on the other hand, Bill is toast.
Until then, if you belive in the real system of justice, then you must say innocent until proven guilty.
As far as his career (such as it is) goes, Karma's a bitch Bill, ain't it? Time for you to shut up.

I do know this: if FOX has procedures in place for addressing sexual harrassment, and Andrea Mackris did not follow them, she will be left twisting in the wind, tapes or no tapes. I've seen it happen. She will embarrass O'Reilly but she will not collect $60 million dollars for it. O'Reilly will become a dirty joke for awhile but FOX will not abandon him.
I was cackling with glee when this story broke, but as more details come out it appears that Mackris has left herself wide open to charges that she is after money, not justice. Fair or not, FOX will paint her as a golddigger and that aspect will come to overshadow O'Reilly's harrassment.
You know the mindset - I'm sure it's as prevalent at FOX as it is among their viewers: Women like this kind of attention, and if they complain about it, they're just dykes out for money. If Mackris didn't like it, why'd she come back to work for O'Reilly after quitting once? Why didn't she hang up the phone and report him to management? Those are the questions she'll be hit with, and I hope for her sake she has good answers.
As discussed on Countdown tonight, the more serious issue for O'Reilly is his blabbing about Roger Ailes as hitman. Olbermann pointed out that if you really have that kind of power, you don't want some minion babbling about it.
We'll see who discredits whom. Sadly, from what I've seen in he course of my career, my bets are not on Ms. Mackris.

16. Not sure, but it sounds like her tapes will fry him. |
|
It certainly may be true that she is into it for the money, but that doesn't mean he automatically gets off the hook because her motives are bad.
If her tapes show that she verbally objected to his harassment a few times and he kept on, she has a really good case even if it did take her a while to go to management. And as for the idea that she doesn't have a case because she returned to work for him and Fox, that's silly. You are not required to give up, or refuse to return to, a fabulous job in order to prove harassment! I would be willing to bet that she warned him off (on tape) and took the job the second time, as was her right, because the job itself was worth it to her, and she also saw a way to burn an asshole (whether for selfish or altruistic reasons). Either way, women win. Guys like this need to be gone. Everybody is truly sick of them.

Going to management at a media company about sexual harrassment is like asking for someone to write speeding tickets at the Indy 500.
Whether eventually found liable or not, the combination of what is alleged in item 66 plus item 81 will alienate O'Reilly's biggest fan base. If the tape comes out and has a certain noise on it then his career may well be over.

With great attention to every detail of the case--massively covered in the media, of course.

Although after reading the info, it sure sounds like him. I have listened to him on occasion and the phrases and sentence stucture sure sound like something that would come out of his mouth. I can hear his voice behind the words.
And yes it's gross to picture that.

They apparently have him on tape -- so he's guilty of being lewd and boorish.
Whether that amounts to sexual harassment under Title VII or the NY Human Rights Law is a different issue, that in large part depends on whether his conduct was welcomed by the plaintiff. Did she complain to O'Reilly and tell him to stop? Did she invite or willingly participate in the comunications? Did she complain to FOX' EEOC people in a timely fashion? If so when? Why did she return to Fox (at O'Reilly's invitation?) after going to another company if she believed that she was being harassed by O'Reilly? There are a lot of questions that will need to be addressed during pretrial discovery.
That being said, O'Reilly's credibility is shot simply by the fact that he's apparently captured on tape talking vibrators, etc.
He's a pig.

36. Not entirely sure it matters |
|
If he fights this and it stays in what passes for "news" in America, he'll end up a laughingstock, no matter what- and quite possibly hounded off the air, even if he wins. If he settles quickly, and makes it all go away, then he's tarnished, but he'll keep his shows... and be the butt of jokes for many months to come.
It's pretty much a no-win situation. Couldn't have happened to a nicer fellow, IMHO.
