4. I Would Submit, They're Not As Smart As You Think They Are
They may be educated. They may be UNSTUPID. That doesn't make them smart.

If they're motivated by enough greed and have gotten trapped in 2 dimensional thinking (not the domain of truly smart people), they will be Bush supporters.

There's a difference between being smarter than an idiot and truly intelligent.
The Professor

21. "Motivated by greed" is exactly right.
I saw a sickening anti-Kerry bumper sticker yesterday on the back of a monster SUV that read "Vote Kerry: New tax rate 50%."
Not only totally wrong but indicative of a mind set that says, "I've got mine. Screw you."
I live in an area where there are quite a few people earning big bucks, and W stickers abound on the biggest, newest, most expensive cars and SUVs. Greed, greed, greed.

43. I agree with the professor.
Many apparently "intelligent" people are willfully ignorant. Their brains are so busy supporting the dogma that holds up their world view, they are unable to think outside the box. Even if they can use fancy schmancy words and are "unstupid" in other ways, they certainly have no ability to think critically and are therefore, NOT intelligent.

So there. :)

45. Thank you, and remember, Bush does not appeal to your intellect,
he appeals to the "reptilian brain", the emotional core of Fear, Fight, or Flight!

He also appeals to insecurities so that one is encouraged to want to "put those people in their place", be they women, minorities, the French, Muslims, etc.

* is "the non-intellectual president". His slogan should be "I'm not smarter than you are!"

This thing isn't over yet. I'll probably be a nervous wreck until I actually witness Kerry's inauguration with my own eyes. And even then we'll have to be SUPER vigilant - because at that point, Kerry's going to need protecting and reinforcing. The REAL "sore losermans" of this country will NOT take this defeat like ladies and gentlemen.

Consider, if you will, the "cherubic" face of the Pat Peales of the world. Remember her? That wonderful specimen at the republi-CONvention with the false teeth, goofy hat, demonic grin, and the nice little purple heart bandaid on her chin? Do you think, for one moment, that someone like her is gonna just hand it all over and be a good sport? And there are TONS of operatives all over our poor, battered, ripped-apart country just like her, AND worse.

36. You're right. After the last 4 years, Kerry should be up by 20 points now
Given that that's not the case, and won't be, there are only two explanations, as I see it.

1. People in this country have handed their brains over to the pod people, which means we have HUGE job ahead of us to try to reclaim as many brains as possible.

2. The polls are waaay off, which means it's probably done on purpose to leave room for stealing the election.

Either way, this is scary shit, and we've lost our country.

Kanary, being ooohhhhh so cheery........ :)

5. I agree. What angers me is they don't see how he panders by
moving to the center during the campaign, but way right as soon as he wins. I can't believe he is going to win. My husband works with a previous strong Bush supporter who now says he is scared and voting Kerry. He recognized after the debates who was on his side. Anyone who says Bush did good this last debate is flat out lying. He didn't answer anything, and most people saw that. I think those that are flocking to him were anyways.

"Would you hire him?"

That cuts through the "he's a good man," or "I'd have a beer with him," and all of the other stupid stuff the stupid people say about him and excusing low expectations of him.

23. Garbage In - Garbage Out
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 09:48 AM by TahitiNut
Our nation's "body politic," just like our individual bodies, has become obese, disease-ridden, and loaded with toxins. This is the result of an educational system that's increasingly prevented from teaching critical thinking, "news" media that's become a PR machine for the global corporatists, and the best politicians that money can buy.

The best computers in the world will yield a constant stream of invalid results when loaded with lousy programming and corrupt data.

In a totalitarian society, the behavior of the citizenry is controlled. Thus, the rulers don't concern themselves much with what those citizens think. ("Who cares what you think?") In a "free" society, the behavior of the citizenry is controlled by manipulating what they think.

These "thought control" practices are long-lived ...
- Disney et. al. tells us from childhood that royalty is wonderful,
- Disney et. al. tells us from childhood that a woman's happiness is based on that day when "her Prince will come"
- Children are indoctrinated to belief in authority from day one with Pledges, Oaths, and ceremonial worship of politicians,
- We play Monopoly and love it,
- We "invest" in the Lottery,
- We victims are told to await the arrival of our rescuers: the Lone Ranger, the Cavalry, Wyatt Earp, and a Great Leader
- Our very identities are founded on who we work for not who we are,
- We have instant status and power when we put on a uniform, whether it be Cub Scout, Brownie, or policeman, and obey orders,
- We have "employment at will" and companies that're 100% managed by Democrats or Republicans (how can that be?),
- We are repeatedly told that buying something will make us happy and sexy - so our happiness depends on getting more, and more, and more.

People aren't "stupid" -- we're in a stupor. We've been programmed and fed a constant life-long diet of toxic "information."

27. very well stated!!
also, we are repeatedly told,

- real men react to disagreement by shooting/kicking/punching the enemy.

- real men yell loudly and listen to no-one

- women are passive and have no interest in anything outside of "family"

- people who think are unloveable geeks

- the big daddy will take care of you (whether thats the corporation, god or the pResident)

- it is required to believe a fairy tale wherein you suffer in this life but you will go be with Big Daddy in Heaven if you are passive and obedient enough, unless you didn't obey the right diety single-mindedly enough, in which case you will go to hell.

- people different from us are enemies and in fact, not even people.

46. I thought about adding ...
... that Disney et. al. tells us from childhood that a woman who's so "high maintenance" that she needs the support of seven small men is a heroine.

I thought about this, since I can interpret it as a parable about the indolent ownership class who're supported by labor ... but I thought "No, it might be taken the wrong way."

"Whistle While You Work" - labor for the benefit of the Entitled is fun
"Someday My Prince Will Come" - orgasms are hard to get
"Far into the Forest" - surveys for the logging industry
"Magic Mirror" - pathological narcissism (Smirky knows about this one)
"There's Trouble a-Brewin'" - them revenoors are a-comin'

And let's never forget that working men are Doc, Happy, Bashful, Sneezy, Sleepy, Grumpy, or Dopey. One man for every day of the week.
