that John Kerry is the most decent, ethical, moral, intelligent presidential candidate in my lifetime.

I do not believe that anybody who knows the facts can HONESTLY condemn Kerry's anti-Vietnam War activism. John O'Neill was and is a warmonger, paid for by the very slimy Chuck Colson, got slapped down quite publicly on the Dick Cavett Show, and has held a 30 year grudge for it.

The movie at times is gutwrenching. How anybody can now be angry at Vietnam veterans who protested senseless death and felt they had to make a dramatic statement to wake up America from a bloody stupor is quite beyond me.

Anybody who watches "Stolen Honor" (and I intend to, but not on Sinclair) is not being fair to himself if he doesn't watch "Going Upriver", also.

The danger, though, in using "Going Upriver" as a counter to "Stolen Honor" is that it's difficult to reconcile Kerry's actions back then to any present insinuations that he'd stay a military course in Iraq. I just don't see how anybody who watches the film won't come away with the perception that Kerry would have us out of Iraq just as soon as he is able to load the ships. (btw, I don't consider that a bad thing)

Brave in battle and brave in renouncing the battle... if Kerry does not win this election it's because the USA does not deserve him.

Where can I download it? It is not in the theater here in Charlotte anymore. Did anyone see the 2 hr PBS special on Kerry and Shrub. I am proud that I got to cast my vote for Kerry yesterday. He is beyond impressive to me.

2. I'm anxious for Mr. Vote

to see Going Upriver. He definitely supports Kerry 100%, however as a Vietnam vet, I think he will appreciate all that Kerry went through in those years. I've ordered the DVD so we can sit on the couch and watch it, however, not trying to cram the two of us into my messy little office in front of the computer.

I'm then sending the movie to my repub. bro-in-law, who seems to like to listen to swift-boat smearvets.

on edit: Welcome to DU, Rex! :hi:

3. I saw it right before the debate.
I don't see how anyone could classify him as a traitor. I was in tears for these men ... and John Kerry is absolutely amazing. I do however disagree that he will pull us out right away. He'll what is right both by us and the Iraqi people.

4. It's a must-see
I walked into the theater a supporter of Kerry, I walked out of the theater asking myself what can I do to deserve this man as my president? He is thoughtful, deep, sensitive, intelligent, brave, clever, and welll...I could go on and on but right now I have to go volunteer for him.

On November 2 I'll be driving around Charlotte NC with a big sign on the side of my car that reads "DO YOU NEED A RIDE TO A VOTING PLACE?"

8. A Green Party friend of mine...

...who voted for Nader in 2000 and has been running really cold on Kerry saw this last week and completely changed his tune. Although there was no danger he was going to vote for Nader this time, he feels much better about voting for Kerry now.

I've gotta see this. I saw that "Frontline" last night and was blown away by the footage of Kerry in the Vietnam era. No wonder Nixon was scared of him (which has got to be about the biggest compliment you could pay someone, in my book).

10. Awesome movie...simply great
In my view, this was not as much about John Kerry than it was about the American spirit.

And that spirit lives and breathes in those soldiers who came back from the war and longed to end it.

Kerry was nothing short of amazing in watching this movie. He showed to be a man of remarkable resolve, leadership, pride, intellect, and unparalleled courage. He stood tall during a time our nation needed men to stand tall.

One of the touching moments was the picture of him and Judy Kerry sitting on the lawn with Kerry’s head hung down and buried in his knees with Judy obviously consoling him. If a picture is worth 1,000 words, that one was worth 2,000.

I liked what one of the former vets said about being on the protesting side…that the vets who spoke up against the war did the right thing, but made the choice that would cost them the most. In my view, their courage at home was greater than what happened abroad.

Concerning Nixon or John O’Neills part in this movie, little should be said of them because it is so obvious that they deserve no discussion in light of the presence of John Kerry. I will say that O’Neill was a blathering idiot even back then.

My wife asked me what I was watching and I told her. I simply said that I am convinced now more than ever that John Kerry is a vastly superior human being to George W. Bush and compared to Kerry, Bush is essentially an inept drone. We deserve this man to be our President.
