Well, I became curious about the funding behind the production of “Stolen Honor” the hit piece on John Kerry, produced by Carlton Sherwood, using his front company, Red White and Blue Production. This is scheduled to be aired, commercial free, by all of the Sinclair stations across the country(62 stations nationwide) sometime before the election. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this upcoming piece of propaganda, “Stolen Honor” purports to tell the stories of seventeen Vietnam POWs, and how Kerry’s actions effected them during and after the war.
Something about this whole set-up stinks to high heaven of a campaign hit piece, despite the FCC ruling that it is all fair and above board(of course, this FCC ruling isn’t suprising, given that the head of the FCC is Michael Powell, son of Colin Powell). The cost of producing this so called documentary was $220,000, and according to the producer Sherwood, all funds were either born by himself, or donated by Pennsylvania veterans.
This sounded a bit fishy to me, so I’ve done some research on Mr. Sherwood, his past work, his associates, his background. One article that I came across <
http://www.delcotimes.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=12894483&BRD=1675&PAG=461&dept_id=18171&rfi=6> had a few things that struck me as odd. One of these things that struck me was the name of Wally Nunn, a Republican, former head of the Delaware(PA) County Council. This is the man whom Sherwood thanked profusely for his help, without specifying what this help was. This occurrence was at a closed screening for “Stolen Honor” in Delaware County PA.
Well, one of the first things I ran across concerning Wally Nunn was that he was a vice chairman for David Horowitz’s Center for the Study of Popular Culture. This puts Nunn in close contact with such deeply pocketed luminaries of the right like David Horowitz, Paul Wolfowitz and Ann Coulter, among others. Gee, through Nunn, Carlton Sherwood is only one degree of separation away from the Bush administration. Hmmm.
But perhaps Sherwood didn’t need Nunn’s connections, though they certainly didn’t hurt. You see, Sherwood himself worked for our current Homeland Security director Tom Ridge for eight years during Ridge’s time as governor of Pennsylvania <

And indeed, even after Ridge got tapped to be the Homeland Security Czar, Sherwood wasn’t far from the action. In fact the Homeland Security Dept tapped the organization that Sherwood was Executive VP for, the wvc3 group, to design and maintain a website dealing with homeland security matters, to be used as a tool for eight million first responders nationwide <

In addition, Sherwood, in his role as a journalist/writer, got in real good with the ultimate of all shadowy, behind the scene RW string pullers, the Rev. Moon’s Unification Church. Claiming that he originally intended to write an expose in order to detail the church abuses and thus bring it down from the inside:eyes:, Sherwood got a job at the Washington Times, in 1984. While there, he suddenly had a change of heart, coming to the conclusion that the Moonies were fine upstanding people, and that they were being persecuted needlessly. Thus, the book he subsequently wrote, “Inquisition: The Persecution and Prosecution of the Reverend Sun Myung Moon” was less an investigative piece than a pro Moon propaganda release<
http://www.roryoconnor.org/blog/index.php?p=65> In the process, Sherwood had ingratiated himself with one of most notorious monied fixers that operates behind the scenes in the right wing cabal.
So after all of this, what are we left with? A right wing hit piece, airing on a right wing broadcast network, that is more than likely funded by right wing sources. On the face of it, one wonders just what the FCC is smoking, but upon realization of who heads the FCC, is comes as no surprise.
So without recourse to law, we are left with boycotts and publicity. This seems to be having some effect, as Sinclair’s market value drops, and they are shedding advetisor’s left and right. But it seems as though Sinclair is bound and determined to see this through, and so should we. Spread the facts far and wide, so that those undecideds wanting to watch this tripe know exactly what they’re viewing, a biased, non-factual hit piece put together by the minions of the right.
And be of good cheer. I sincerely doubt that this BS will have much, if any, effect on the outcome of the election. People are getting tired and jaded about these hit pieces. Most realize that they are biased BS, much like the Swiftboat Liars book that came out earlier. In the end, all “Stolen Honor” will do is provide red meat for the RW faithful, and the price of making them, once again, look like the foolish, stupid dupes that they are.
