ALEXANDRIA, Va. - US Airways' request in bankruptcy court to impose 23 percent pay cuts on its union workers would reduce flight attendants' pay scales to 1982 levels, according to a union analyst.

Daniel W. Akins, an economist working for the Association of Flight Attendants, testified Thursday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court that the pay cuts sought by bankrupt US Airways are so severe that the airline's pay scales would be 22 percent lower than the average salary scale of the nation's low-cost air carriers.

US Airways should be compared to his taxcuts.Both will result in more and more jobs.At the extreme end of this program, people will be asked to pay US Airways to have the privilege of working for the company and only the fear of a mad rush for those jobs is keeping US Airways from asking the judge to approve this plan.Mr.Bush likes the idea so much he is going to ask Congress to approve a tax plan in which people will turn in their entire paychecks so they can get tax cuts from the Administration.Are we lucky yet?
