KRS-One=Sistah Souljah?

<snip>
The hip-hop anarchist has declared his solidarity with al Qaeda by asserting that he and other African-Americans ''cheered when 9/11 happened,'' reports the New York Daily News.

''I say that proudly,'' the Boogie Down Productions founder went on, insisting that, before the attack, security guards kept black people out of the World Trade Center ``because of the way we talk and dress. . . . So when the planes hit the building, we were like, `Mmmm -- justice.' ''

The atrocity of 9/11 ''doesn't affect us ,'' he said. ''9/11 happened to them, not us,'' he added, explaining that by ''them'' he meant ``the rich . . . those who are oppressing us. RCA or BMG, Universal, the radio stations.''

Parker also sneered at efforts by other rappers to get young people to vote. ''Voting in a corrupt society adds more corruption,'' he added. ``America has to commit suicide if the world is to be a better place.''
<snip>

Could Kerry gain points by denouncing this scumbag bastard?

1. i doubt it
most people don't know who he is, and most people don't care. clinton's stunt was idiotic, and i hope kerry doesn't repeat it.
what's with the use of the word thug and non-white men? seems an epidemic, of sorts.

And "thug" is used to describe ReTHUGlicans all the time, in case you hadn't noticed.

11. And more than likely taken out of context.
In response to the Daily News story, KRS released a statement on Thursday to explain his words.

"Like everyone," he wrote, "I was shocked to read that I and other African-Americans actually 'cheered when 9-11 happened,' and that I have 'declared my solidarity with Al Qaeda.'

"I would never just say something as crazy as 'we cheered when 9-11 happened'!" he continued. "I was making an objective point about how many hip-hoppas as well as the oppressed peoples of the world felt that day."

i reserve my criticism and condemnation for bush, inc...the people who made it happen in the first place.

Here's KRS' response

http://www.allhiphop.com/hiphopnews/?ID=3618
or
http://www.allhiphop.com/editorial/?ID=218 (which seems to be down)

From what I can see, although the language may have been taken a little out of context, in his response the sentiment is still there. It's not like he said something completely benign and he's being made out to be the Antichrist or anything. I applaud him for standing up and saying what he believes, I think everyone should... unfortunately, I find what he believes to be greatly disturbing.

Apparently, people who took satisfaction in the deaths of 3000 people and want to destroy democracy in America by suppressing the vote of African-Americans can't be described as thugs.

Reminds one of the "global test" fixation of the Rethugs. If you can't win an argument on the merits, focus on a few words, distort, and distract.

93. How about if the cop drops a bomb on a civilian neighborhood?
Your logic can go both ways.

The Pentagon and the WTC were just as valid a military target as what we're blowing up in Iraq. It's just as easy to say all those dead civilians are collateral damage.

So the only real difference is we've killed more civilians in Iraq then civilians killed on 9-11, we've got more and fancier guns, we're white and christian, they're brown and muslim.

Therefore we're the "good guys", they're the "bad guys."

Hmm, I see a pattern here.

9/11: 3000 innocent people are TARGETED and murdered.

Afghanistan: The theocratic barbarians and terrorists responsible for 9/11 are thrown out of power. Tragically, as in all wars, innocent people are killed inadvertently and, in limited cases, recklessly and/or deliberately.

Negotiations don't mean jack shit.

The fact that there hasn't been any construction on the pipeline three years after the US invaded kinda invalidates the stupid pipeline theory.

Especially since the pipeline can't be built because of the Bush admin's deliberate failure to stabilize the country.

79. As I post below
http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/afghan.html

The Afghan government under President Karzai has tried to revive the Trans-Afghan Pipeline (TAP) plan, with periodic talks held between the governments of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Turkmenistan on the issue, but little progress appears to have been made as of early June 2004 (despite the signature on December 9, 2003, of a protocol on the pipeline by the governments of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Turkmenistan). President Karzai has stated his belief that the project could generate $100-$300 million per year in transit fees for Afghanistan, while creating thousands of jobs in the country.

Given the obstacles to development of a natural gas pipeline across Afghanistan, it seems unlikely that such an idea will make any progress in the near future, and no major Western companies have expressed interest in reviving the project. The security situation in Afghanistan remains an obvious problem, while tensions between India and Pakistan make it unlikely that such a pipeline could be extended into India and its large (and growing) gas market. Financial problems in the utility sector in India, which would be the major consumer of the natural gas, also could pose a problem for construction of the TAP line. Finally, the pipeline's $2.5-$3.5 billion estimated cost poses a significant obstacle to its construction.

No construction on a pipeline in Afghanistan has taken place.

That article is over two years old. If they wanted that pipeline so much, why haven't they even started building it.

http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/afghan.html

By the way, this is from June 2004. Recent enough for you?

I'm not saying Karzai (and his Bush White House supporters) are smart. Just greedy as hell. Bush, Cheney, et al., were all telling us what a wonderful reception our troops would receive in Iraq just last year. In other words, these ideolouges aren't known for their ability to discern the real geo-political consequences of their delusions.

109. Clinton and Sister Souljah remark
Where I worked, all the white lefties and liberals were all upset over it, some to the point of threatening not to vote because Clinton was obviously a racist.

The vast majority of African-Americans in the office sided with Clinton, asking "What did he say that wasn't true"?

KRS-One is an intelligent guy that got caught saying something stupid.

The fact that the quote is broken up to make a specific sentence makes me question if it's been taken out of context. The media certainly has been known to do that, especially with controversial statements.

If he did indeed cheer the innocent deaths caused on 9/11, he most certainly deserves condemnation. You'll forgive me if I investigate what he actually said before condemning him, I'm sure.

As for Kerry using what he said to gain points, there's a real danger of it coming off as playing racial politics by the media. I seem to recall that was how Clinton's dumb ass move was characterized, anyway.

But whacking a musician in the hopes of reprising a Sistah Souljah moment would just be dumbassery in motion. If Kerry tears into KRS while giving Dubya "trifecta" "good year for Laura and me" "daily briefing about imminent attack didn't penetrate my thick skull" Bush a pass, then he's worthless. 72. Here we go. What a "thug" thinks about 9-11. "Horrifying"

Q: You were working on this record when the terrorists struck on Sept. 11? How did that impact the project and your thinking?

A: I woke up, to go to the studio, to that horrifying picture of the World Trade Center. Immediately, God came into my mind: 'Why God? What is this about?' I'm one to say 'God is on the side of the winner.' Because if you believe in God, you have to believe that nothing going on is really done by man, that God's plan is being worked out before us. I'm speaking in a spiritual sense now, but there is a hardcore political sense to this as well. From a devout spiritual 'Christ-ian' perspective -- and that's what I call myself -- you look and say, 'If God does bless America, why would God allow this to happen?' Then you start to think, 'Maybe God hasn't blessed America. Maybe America has some real issues that have to be brought to the forefront ...'

On the song 'Tears,' I pull out : 'Love your enemies'. What happened to that? What happened to, 'If you're slapped on one cheek, turn the other'? Not that America should not retaliate, but if we don't do some self-reflecting, I think the Sears Tower is next, I think the White House is next. There are some other issues that as Christians we need to think about: What would Jesus advise us to do? Would he say a '$25 million bounty on Osama bin Laden's head'? Another thing has to do with innocence and guilt. America is getting a wake-up call that the rest of the world don't like us. When you study the actions of the CIA, the FBI, the IMF, the NSA, the WTO, America has like a 100-year field day on the world. Now, there's this hatred for the U.S., for the flag. If we are truly going to call ourselves patriots, then we're going to have to do some serious soul-searching ... The general apathy in this country has to change.

96. Wow! Lookit! A Minority Says Something Outrageous!!! NEWSWORTHY (not)
Oh how lucky for us that some minority entertainer has stood up and said what we've been hoping and praying someone would say since 9/11 happened----something outrageous, something so...vile...that we just can't help but to shake our collective heads and say "You know...I *KNEW* those minorities thought that way deep inside. I was just waiting for one of them to come out and say it".

And he even rails against OTHER minorities too...so there goes the 'racially motivated' factor, you know...because ALLL minorities say things that are racially motivated against the "white man".

They're all like that. All of them. Brown, darker brown, darker than white---they're all the same. America hatin' minorities is what I call them. Sitting back, collecting welfare while they're smoking crack and squeezing out a baby every 9 months for *ME* and my hard-working white family to take care of. I wonder if him and his baby's moma was getting WIC while he was saying all this stuff?

WHEN IS THE MINORITY COMMUNITY GOING TO CONDEMN THIS PERSON AND WHAT HE SAID? Because, as we all know, white people aren't accountable for what other white people say or do, but miniorities belong to this exclusive card-carrying club and they VOW that they will be...that they MUST be responsible for everything anyone of their minority says and does.

I mean, I've been WAITING for some Islamists to come out and condem the 9/11 attacks. So far, the liberal media hasn't shown any. Therefore, no one is speaking out against it, ergo, therefore, logically ALL Muslims approve of 9/11 since they haven't spoken out against it.

I take it this KRS-brotha is probably black, because no straight-thinking white family would give their child an acronym for a name. That's another thing with those blacks---what the hell is up with the names for their kids? Why doesn't some really black person come out and say 'NO MORE JAMAL! No More Takesha! We will all be Mary and Paul and Sandy!!" but that's another argument.

So this KRS person is saying that we deserve 9/11. Where's Jesse Jackson? Wehre's Al Sharpton? Where is the AUTHORITY ON ALL THINGS BLACK, the Honourable Bill Cosby? Why aren't they speaking out? Denouncing this KRS fellow? Calling for his ouster from the black community?

You know, those minorities really need to keep each other in check. I'm tired of them coming to my country freely like 200 years ago (doesn't that make them illegal immigrants or something?), getting really great jobs in the fields (taking away jobs from WHITES, no doubt!!!) then bitching and whining about the sun and the whips---Hey Kunta--you were getting food, RIGHT? That's more than the poor white slave owners were getting. So they get to be free and from that point on they have just prospered and thrived in America. They're taking way MY jobs, clogging up MY kids' school with their hippity hoppity butt-showing clothing (thank YOU Mr. Cosby for denouncing that, finally!), polluting our neighborhoods with their Bee-on-say music and girating adn stuff, and NOW this KRS dude--who is *OBVIOUSLY* a spokesperson for every single black person who was ever conceived--comes and says we deserved 9/11

Where's the outrage???

122. I bow and blush :)
thanks for the thumbs up :)
What can I say---I'm a self-loathing white person :-) Perhaps I should call upon John Kerry to 'denounce' the comments I made while driving to school today when stuck behind some idiot who was doing 25 in a 35 zone---Lemme tell ya...KRS got *NOTHING* on what I was saying to that asshole today :)

Let's have National I Denounce What Someone Said Day. Let's make it today.

As of right now, I, Heddi, Officially Denounce everything that has ever been said that I disagree with, or that I found offensive, unfunny, stupid, dull, bad-timing, bad punchline, tedius, wrong-time-of-day, etc. I officially denounce it.

I call on all people who have ever bored me, offended me, made me not laugh, or caused me to squirt some liquid-type substance from one (or more) body orifices, to publically apologize for everything they've ever said, done, suggested, insinuated, thought, wrote, or gossipped. They should feel shame, embarassment, public humiliation, loss of pubic hair, and general bad breath for their actions (or inactions).

Try it, it's fun! It's like going to confession, only this time you really don't have to mean it.

114. Where is the whole statement?
This article doesn't even quote whole statements. "Cheered when 9/11 happened" is a quote from him but who cheered. If he said African Americans cheered why isn't the quote "African Americans cheered when 9/11 happened. "I say that proudly" is another quote. The reporter says it has to do with the cheering quote but how do I know that.

The article is one big paraphrase with snippets of quotes that could have a totally different meaning if taken out of context. I believe if KRS said these things there would be no need to paraphrase the whole thing. None of the quotes are damning on there own but when put with the reporters paraphrased remarks they take on a whole new meaning.

124. I'm outraged over the non-outrage over the outrageous outrage
It's like that Tom Tomorrow strip....where all the liberal's heads explode from outrage overload....

I'm so glad I have cunning DU'ers to remind me, daily, what I should and shouldn't be outraged about. I'd just be a complacent fool, floating through the world, only worrying about things that I deemed particularly worrisome; getting mad over the things that make me mad. What a waste of energy THAT was!!! Why, I had no idea that yes, I too, could be in a state of 24-hour, continuous frothing-at-the-mouth-and-chewing-on-the-carpet Anger! I mean, I've already had EIGHTEEN fucking aneurysms this week...and that's LOW for me!!!

Hip Hip Hooray for the Outrage over Nothing!!!

Thanks, DU!

Hey....did I mention that I'm an oppressed white woman? I am!!! Why, I feel the boot of humanity crushing my neck. Hep me! Hep me! :snort:

125. ***LBN**** Sean "Puffy Puff Daddy P-Diddy" Combs: DEATH TO AMERICANS
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 09:21 PM by Heddi
Yep.

He's got that VOte or Die thing---it's a threat. he knows it. He's a thug. Anyone named P-Diddy is a thug. If you rearrange the letters of the word P-Diddy, you get Did Dyp. "Did Dip" as in 'I DID DIP my hand into my pocket and pull out a gun to shoot people who don't vote." That's what he means, and he's SAYING IT OUT LOUD TO OUR CHILDREN.

This is an assault on us, PEOPLE! "Vote or Die?" Is that, like, a threat to kill anyone who doesn't vote?

The black community is very large, and I should know because my once beautiful neighborhood now borders on the black community and now I hear that Crap (hey you can't spell CRAP without RAP ha ha ha) boom-box vanilla ice shit all night until 11pm on New Years Eve. I see what they've done to my community AND THEY'RE GOING TO DO IT TO YOURS!!! They're well organized---why do you think they all ride the busses together and stuff? THEY'RE PLANNING, PEOPLE.

So Shawn Colmes is going to rile up all the black community (and probably some of the dissaffected rich white kid wigger community too, but not too much because their parents care enough to give them curfews), and all of these black thugs and their hoochie mamas and shorties are gonna come knocking on the door of everyone in the country and if you can't prove you voted, THEY ARE GOING TO KILL YOU.

He said it: Vote or Die.

It's as plain as the plantar wart on my foot!

I call upon the ENTIRETY OF THE WORLD as well as the INVOCATION OF SOULS WHO HAVE PASSED FROM THIS WORLD TO THE NEXT to rise up (not literally, dead people ha ha!) and DENOUNCE THIS FOUL BAD INFLUENCE ON OUR CHILDREN!!!!

The day John Kerry comes out to denounce this thuggish thug will be not one day too soon.

WE MUST APPEAL TO THE MIDDLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:blood spurts from head from outrage overload:
