AP/Yahoo: Sunday Halloween Irks Some in Bible Belt

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=13&u=/ap/20041015/ap_on_re_us/halloween_on_the_sabbath

"NEWNAN, Ga. - Across the Bible Belt this Halloween, some little ghosts and goblins might get shooed away by the neighbors — and some youngsters will not be allowed to go trick-or-treating at all — because the holiday falls on a Sunday this year.

It's a day for the good Lord, not for the devil," said Barbara Braswell, who plans to send her 4-year-old granddaughter Maliyah out trick-or-treating in a princess costume on Saturday instead."

If you are against Halloween, at least be consistant about it.

3. Solution: Move Sunday to another day.
We can move Sunday to next Wednesday...well part of next wednesday. The First 12 hours will be sunday (time enough for Church) the next 8 hours Wednesday, and the remaining hours a day to be named later.

6. Wait, I know!!
This will be an 8 day week!! The extra day, we'll call Bibleday, and then we can get rid of the next leap year. Shouldn't be too hard to change all the calendars in the world. Anything to help out the poor repressed Christians!!!!!

7. NO NO NO Sunday is supposed to be Saturday
But I think that means moving Saturday to Wednesday, which is something similar to what the French are doing.

Heresy!

8. "Jesus never observed the Sabbath on Sunday"
Tell your kids to say that to the fundies while trick or treating.

11. Good God Almighty (pun intended)
Halloween is All Hallow's Eve, for crying out loud! It's the anniversary of a holy day! Ignorant dorks - they should try OPENING their Bibles and READING them instead of just thumping on them!

12. tell this story to kids
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 04:23 PM by GinaMaria
and you'll see many devilish grins. You know they're thinking 'Goody, more candy for me'. Greedy little pagans.

I worked with someone who was terrified of Halloween. She was a fundie. She was convinced that the devil made people put razor blades and poison in the candy to hurt kids. You're free to believe whatever you want in this country, but I'm not convinced that it requires press.

I called the 700 club one Halloween, using their 800 number. I wished the lady who answered a Happy Halloween.

14. That's IT.. We MUST have a new calendar..
A calendar that only lists the "good" holidays and events..:eyes:

Perhaps the folks who are dead-set against Halloween for "religious" reasons should just do a better job of teaching their young, that in THEIR family they do not celebrate Halloween..

We never celebrated Hanukkah, in our Catholic household, but we never suggested that is should be banned or removed from any public arena..

17. It is a sad world when...
we can't even let our kids have a day to have fun. Do we really have to drag them into our world of horseshit?
