1. It's just amazing to me that 32% think it is a choice.
God, people are dumb.

2. Could it possibly be a choice for some people?
Maybe it depends upon the person and the circumstances, whether its a choice or not. What about bisexuality? I don't know, I'm just not 100% confident that I can say.

5. I see people on a spectrum. There has to be a lot of people
that are place near the intersection of male and female. As they experiment, they must find out what feels comfortable.

I suspect that almost everyone finds a place where they can have their social, emotional and intellectual needs met. If it is a gay relationship, or a lesbian relationship or a hetro relationship, the individuals involved feel rewarded.

I think that the sex aspect is probably overplayed. Living with someone who shares your values and your interests is a lot more important in the long run.

Personally, I cannot imagine substituting a man for my wife and enjoying the same relationship. But that's me.

9. It's the old Kinsey scale
that puts sexual orientation on a 0-6 continuum. The orientation of people near the center (the "3" mark) are most likely to be swayed by environment, upbringing, the "nurture" stuff. But these people are by far in the minority. For most people, their orientation is fixed by the time they're 3 or 4.

6. To anyone who thinks it's a choice
just say, "When did you 'decide' to become a heterosexual?"

Of course, the most abhorently anti-gay people are always deeply closeted gays themselves...

8. So the 37% who said "yes" all chose their sexual orientation?
By the way, calling it sexual "preference" loads the question, since preferences are conscious decisions.

13. damn, over 30% of the country is bisexual!
because that's the only way it could possibly be a choice, if you'll fuck men OR women and have to choose one.

Me, I was born sooooooo hetero I can't imagine anyone choosing to be gay. Ever. Why the fuck would you?

11. "Preference?" Where the fuck has CNN been?
Here in Connecticut, we started calling it "sexual orientation" back around 1990! :eyes:

12. Stupid bizarre poll
What the hell do people mean when they ask this question? I mean, really. We're not binary, people. It isn't just a matter of identifying one form of genitalia you think yours fits best with. Sheesh.

:argh:

23. Sickening indeed
These CNN losers are promoting a phony "issue" to lick the boots of their overlords.

I haven't looked at CNN since the Democratic Convention and feel much better. Viewing reactionary propaganda makes me ill.

The only TV news we watch now is The Al Franken Show on Sundance. He's doing a fantastic job.

who voted "Yes" made a conscious decision to be so.

17. Who cares?!
Why is this even an issue with people, just live and let live. I don't care if someone chooses to be gay or is born that way. When are people going to evolve to the point where this is not even an issue.
It's a stupid poll question and a stupid debate question.

They're pretty much a laughing stock these days... in the same league as Fox- except with ever declining ratings.

20. Do you think Sexual Choice is a Choice?
That is what the question says. "Sexual Preference" is a buzzword for the right, indicating that people "choose" to be gay, a wrong choice in their eyes, a choice that needs to be rejected. CNN bias strong again.

21. They did get lower - see the new question:
"Are soldiers entitled to refuse a mission for which they feel ill-equipped?"

Vote and check out the responses. I hope the "No" sayers get into that very situation and get told "No".

22. The Right wants it to be a choice
Because if it is in-born/genetic, then much of the justification for discrimination goes out the window. If people can't be seduced in a "homosexual lifestyle," then what reason is there to limit adoption rights, gay teachers, etc. I'm guessing that some proportion of folks on the Right honestly believe that a person can be persuaded to become gay.

They don't want any acceptance for gays because if youngsters (and others) see gays as ordinary and acceptable members of the community then disincentives to coming out or being or acting on one's gay instincts will be weakened.
