Stewart, Sinclair, and taking back the airwaves... |
|
The media is controlled by big GOP CEOs, but what Sinclair showed is that we do have power. The single most important thing, after a John Kerry victory, is to take back control of the airwaves. A Kerry president will be investigate just as Clinton was unless we demand some balance.
We should use the same tactics to insist that shows such as Hardball have an equal number of progressive guests to balance out the right wingers. And we should demand that there be an equivelant show to O'Reilly on TV. There's a market. They just don't want to tap into it because they think kissing up to the GOP is more profitable. And the next time they refuse to broadcast a moveon ad (how many right wing ads have been turned down?) we ought to put the heat on.
Sounds like Stewart is planning to tap into that anger over media control on his book tour. I, for one, support that.

1. Media consolidation must be reversed |
|
Gone are the days of a dj playing a cut from a local band, leading to national exposure. Today it's top down and if you offend the Man (like the Dixie Chicks), you won't be played. Likewise, local news is going fast. Investigative news almost doesn't exist because of the power of coersion used by the few owners. Case in point is Sinclair.
We need to get the airwaves back. We the people own them and we need to stand up and fight for them. We can demand it from our politicians, and we must start.
