5. I wonder if it has anything to do with Halliburton or another contractor?
We know the troops don't like guarding Halliburton trucks.

7. They still are locked up and prisoners of their own military.
MOre of them should refuse these immoral and suicidal orders.

10. This is a can -o-worms
for the military. I think the "Mutineers" could be shot for this. Given a short and sweet military Courts Martial and shot.

Oh dear! what is a CIC to do? (This close to the election) If the reaction is not sever it will be happening again and again. Military discipline down the toilet.

9. sorry but mutiny is unacceptable conduct
by soldiers. an effective disciplined army cannot tolerate mutiny. these guys need to be court martialed and given bad conduct or dishonorable discharges. i am wavering on prision time.

12. Happens all the time
In Nam many an officer was supposedly fragged. Orders are often ignored and even back-line troops, like in a certain Air National Guard unit I've heard about, are not prosecuted for their absence without leave.

No big deal. Besides, who wouldn't want to spend a few months in jail verses getting your damn fool ass blown off for no good reason?

13. With really good lawyers
...they could get off at a GCM. All you have to do is show that the officer in charge failed in his duties and thus the order was not lawful. If the officer showed willful gross negligence and egregious disregard for the safety of his subordinates they could flip this, and either get off entirely or get the two weeks in the brig, suspended, type sentence.

They will need good lawyers, preferably a civilian lawyer with military experience and a shitload of media contacts--BECAUSE THE MEDIA WILL DRIVE THIS STORY, if they are bugged to follow up, and there is a human interest angle in there (and there IS). The lawyers are out there, will they volunteer to help?
